Phyllis Doreen Mackie (nee Couldwell)
September 30, 1928 – February 2, 2017
Phyllis Doreen Mackie (nee Couldwell) passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Villas in Prince Albert, SK on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the age of 88. Mom was born in Lily Plain on September 30, 1928, the youngest of 6 children. Phyllis married Allan Mackie in 1947. Shortly after they moved to Calgary where they had 2 children. After 17 years in Calgary, Mom and Dad got the farming bug and moved to Briarlea in 1965 to farm with Phyllis’ dad John Couldwell. Mom embraced farm life, doing chores, growing beautiful gardens, picking berries and preserving large amounts of fruits and vegetables. She had a way about her that made chores fun. She loved nature, animals and being outdoors as much as possible. Mom was an excellent seamstress and was not afraid to take on carpentry projects if the need arose. She could somehow always manage to put together incredible meals whenever people dropped by. Mom and Dad had another child 6 years after moving to the farm. Mom always said that having a child later in life kept her young. Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her son Philip (Janet); daughters Carol and Tracy; grandchildren Erin (Joe) Zatylny, Travis (Brittany) and Katherine Mackie; 5 great grandchildren plus one surviving sister Gladys Adams. She was predeceased by her husband Allan Mackie; parents Mary (nee Bruce) and John Couldwell; siblings Lea Hunt, Gordon Couldwell, Doyle Couldwell and Ruth Cox. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Good Shepherd Villas for the kind and compassionate care shown to our Mom and family. A Graveside Service will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens at the Garden of the Last Supper at 11:00am Saturday, May 20th, 2017 with a lunch to follow the service at Gray’s Funeral Chapel. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to a charity of donor’s choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
