Philomene Mountain

1954 – 2019

With heavy hearts, the family of Philomene Mountain, late of Lloydminister, AB, formerly of Big River First Nation, passed away in the University Of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, AB, on September 6, 2019, surrounded by her family at the age of 65 years. The Wake Services for Philomene commenced at 7:00 pm from the Mistahi Sipiy Elementary School Gym on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, and moved to the Big River First Nation Band Hall at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. The Funeral Service followed on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 11:00 am. Philomene will be laid to rest in the Whitefish Catholic Cemetery. Pastor Danny Heathen  officiated the services. Pallbearers will be Duane Lachance, Daryll Pahtayken, Brad Pahtayken, Clayne Sparvier, Wilson McAdam, Curtis McAdam. 

Philomene is lovingly remembered by her common-law husband, John Bigstone; Her children: Clifford McAdam of Saskatoon, SK and children: Cruz McAdam, Ciara and Clarissa Bird, Gabe Fiddler, Misty and Dejiona Gladue, and Ernest McAdam; Ernest McAdam of Prince Albert, SK; Marlys McAdam of Saskatoon, SK and family: Matthew, Brett, Mariah, Kyla, and Taylor Stanley, and Myla McAdam; Elaine McAdam of Lloydminster, AB and family: Lonny McAdam, Brandy, Nakeisha, Randy Jr. Wolfe, Loralie McAdam; Carmella McAdam (Eldon Stanley) of Frog Lake, AB and son: Maliki; Ricky Mountain (Samantha) of Frog Lake, AB and family: Madison, Adison, Ciara, Ricki, Ricky Jr. and Alexia Mountain; April Mountain of Lloydminster, AB and family: Tyrese, Avril, Quill, Cash, and Baby May Lewis; Tammy Mountain of Lloydminster, AB and her family: Juliet and Tamia Mountain; Her great grandchildren: Conrad Young, Jaylyn, Wyatt, and Elayna McAdam, Heavenly, Beautiful, and Paizlee Wolfe, and Colton Mountain; Her adopted son, Eldon Pahtayken; Her siblings: Stella Pahtayken of Onion Lake FN; Dora Pahtayken (Wesley Sandfly) of Onion Lake FN; Donald McAdam (Sandra Netmaker) of Big River FN; Roy (Mary Jane) McAdam of Saskatoon, SK; Jimmy (Gladys) McAdam of North Battleford, SK; Emilie McAdam of Lloydminster, AB; Flora McAdam of Onion Lake, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Philomene was predeceased by, Her first husband, Lawrence Weenonis; Her second husband, Roderick Mountain; Her parents, Antoine and Marie McAdam; Her brother, George McAdam and sister, Angelique McAdam; Her grandson, Wyatt George Wolfe; Her mothers-in-law, Flora Weenonis and Mary Mountain; and her brother-in-law, Leonard Pahtayken.   

 Philomene was born and raised in Big River, SK by her loving parents the late Antoine and Marie McAdam. She had 5 children with her late husband Lawrence Weenonis. Philomene later moved to Onion Lake, SK and married the late Roderick Mountain and had three children. Her current loving significant other is John Bistone from Calling Lake, AB together they raised 4 grandchildren Lonny McAdam, Nakeisha Wolfe, Loralie McAdam, and Cruz McAdam.

Philomene lived a life of joy and freedom, she loved to travel, enjoy the scenic route or take a road never travelled to get to her destination, she didn’t rush or get rushed. When she wasn’t travelling, she did beadwork, her beadwork was so distinctive that it was perfection in the art of beads. Beading was how she managed to raise 8 children, without it her children would not know patience and understanding. She also loved being outdoors, camping was a must during the summer months as was picking berries. But mostly she loved being with her extended family, her brothers and sisters were her strength when she was losing hope, all she needed was to hear or be near to them.

Most of all she was a hard worker and always said hard work never hurt a person. Philomene always provided for her children. Not a day went by that she wouldn’t tell us to “Walk The Path We Were Supposed To Walk”. Our mother is our hero, she gives us hope and faith. She will be missed dearly. Philomene Mountain will be remembered for her sweet, kind and gentle soft-spoken voice. Her arms wide open in the time of need, even when there was very little to give, or assist with she always managed. Mom would say “All you have to say is “In The Name of Jesus”, anytime you felt scared or alone. Philomene loved each and every one of her eight children in a very distinctive way, not loving one more than the other. She especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Philomene was diagnosed with a rare lung disease called Pulmonary Fibrosis 6 ½ years ago. In February 2019, Philomene was selected to participate in the Lung Transplant 4 week physio, then later received a call in April that she was selected as a recipient for a Lung Transplant
