Passed in: Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada Passed on: July 23rd, 2012 PHILLIP “FRED” KOMAIKE June 16, 1926 – July 23, 2012 On Monday July 23, 2012 somebody very special left us at 86 years of age. Fred is survived by his much loved wife of 59 years Margaret and his 5 children Laurie (Tony), Susan (Brian), Nancy (Gerald), Dave (Laurie), Rob (Lois) plus 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Fred was born and raised in Ontario but travelled west after leaving the paratroopers, which is probably for the best as he made his parachute into a tent. He had a love of the north and nature and had his own dog team when he was stationed at Fort Chimo. He loved to read but he once put Farley Mowat in jail when Farley had no place to sleep when he was passing through. Fred was a man of many passions and interests. He loved to visit family and friends and would no sooner be home from one visit when he would be thinking of who to go see next. From his taping of 8 tracks and records to cassettes and betas to VHS’s, wine and beer making (Dave says pineapple and banana wine are not good), fishing and photography. His best days involved coming home with a string of fish or receiving yet another camera in the mail. Who knows how much trouble he could have gotten into with his laptop? He was a man of many talents who could make a school bus into a camper or a burnt mobile home into a cabin, though the latter made the city of Prince Albert write a new by-law about having those in your backyard. He had a mischievous/quirky side like the time he had the trunk of his RCMP car full of snow geese he had shot with his sawed off shot-gun while he talked to the conservation officer or the time he examined and passed himself on his drivers exam when it was required by the RCMP. Fred’s family invites you to attend the service and share memories of your own. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church – 260 – 25th Street East – by Father Maurice Fiolleau. A private family interment will take place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Fred’s name. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Don Moriarty – Funeral Director.
