Mr. Philip Joseph Pierre Gaboury
1930 – 2014

We lay to rest Philip Joseph Pierre Gaboury, a most gentle loving man to all who knew him. Born on a homestead in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan on October 8, 1930 by a mid-wife. Philip grew up the oldest of four brothers and three sisters. Known to his brothers in the field as ‘The Boss’, he had the frame of a giant and a heart and temperament that was mild and kind. Philip owned and operated a garage in Spiritwood in the early 60s before moving to Shellbrook where he met and married Nora Kormos. Along with Nora came five boys, Daryl, Danny, Kelly, Kerry and Dale which he raised and loved as his own. He and Nora worked hard farming in Cookson along with Philip’s two brothers, Paul and Andy. In 1971, Phil and Nora moved to an acreage north of Shellbrook. Phil worked at Pott’s Construction running a dozer and working as a heavy duty mechanic for several years until he took a job at Weyerhaeuser where he worked in the bush camps fixing and servicing heavy equipment. Phil received many awards from “zero lost time” to “safe driving”. Phil was employed with Weyerhaeuser until he retired in 1992. Six months after retirement he was in a serious car accident that nearly claimed his life and left his left arm useless. With his strong will and determination he persevered through life tending to his wife, garden and yard. As years passed by his wife Nora grew ill and Philip was there every step of the way to ensure she had all she needed. In his last several years, Philip could be seen driving his electric scooter all over Shellbrook, to town for coffee and the mail, visiting his many friends and to church on Sunday. Philip was not only a great husband but a kind and gentle father and grandfather. He will be forever missed by his four brothers, Leo (Dot) Gaboury; Robert Gaboury; Paul (Hilda) Gaboury; Andrew (Anne) Gaboury; and his three sisters, Claire Meier; Lea (Phil) Poulin; and Therese Dion; and his boys, Daryl, Danny, Kelly, Kerry and Dale Kormos, as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. We will Love and Miss You forever. The Mass of Christian Burial for Philip took place on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Agatha’s RC Church in Shellbrook with father Tru Le as Celebrant. The Cross Bearer was Tammy Gaboury, Michelle Valila and Lisa Kormos were readers, Paul and Andy Gaboury presented the gifts, Anne Gaboury read the eulogy, Ellen Nesdoly was the organist, pallbearers were Graham Boxall, Kendell Kormos, Nathan Buller – Kormos, Dale Gaboury, Neil Gaboury, and Brian Gaboury. Interment took place in the Deer Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Philip to the Parkland Integrated Health Centre (Box 70 Shellbrook, SK S0J 2E0).
