Peter Barrie Brook
Peter Brook, supported by the love of his wife and his children, died with peace and dignity at his Prince Albert home on June 28, 2012. Peter was born April 10, 1944 in Leeds, England and was the only child of Joe and Hazel Brook. The family immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario when Peter was a young child and throughout his life he always maintained an emotional connection to his friends in that city. Peter was a kind and gentle man who gave much of himself to work alongside others to support those who were not being treated fairly. In his 40 year career as a community developer he never lost sight of his commitment to social justice and his perseverance and determination leaves a legacy that has touched the lives of many people, particularly those in northern Saskatchewan. All those who knew him are aware that Peter devoted a great deal of his life to his work but he also had the time to make a significant contribution as a volunteer. Peter devoted his energy and passion to developing the sport of rowing through his involvement in the rowing club in Prince Albert, his contribution as President of the Saskatchewan Rowing Association and then on a national level as a Board Member and Vice-President of Rowing Canada Aviron. His substantial contribution was honoured when he received the Sask Sport Volunteer Recognition Award in 2009. His passion for all music, but particularly the jazz masters, his love of the land he shared with Bonnie in Saskatchewan and the land at Refuge Cove in British Columbia were very important to him. Above all, he was a husband, best friend and loving partner to Bonnie Jeffery for 28 years, a wonderful father to son Ayla and daughter Lillith, and an extremely proud grandfather of Duncan, Cormac and Eliza. A Celebration of Peter’s life will be held for family, friends and colleagues on Thursday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Par Place located 2.5 kms west of Prince Albert on Highway 3 towards Shellbrook. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Peter’s memory to the Prince Albert Food Bank, 64-11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 0Z9. Arrangements in care of Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel. Brian and Bev Stobbs, Funeral Directors. 306.763.8488 www.northernfuneralservice.ca
