Patricia Joan SAYER
Patricia Joan Sayer was born on December 14, 1933 in Winnipeg, MB. On Wednesday, February 8, 2012, Pat passed away peacefully at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, SK with family by her side at the age of 78 years. Pat leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband of 58 years Ted; her children Colleen (Irv), Greg (Gloria), Doug (Patti) and Merrilee (Richard); her eight grandchildren Amanda, Aaron, Laura, Brenden, Amy, Lindsay, Shannah and Jeffrey; one great grandchild Liam; her siblings Harold (Marj) Hughes of Winnipeg, Flo Hughes of Winnipeg and Gary (Mary) Hughes of Fredericton NB; sister-in-law Pat Hughes of Raleigh, NC; in-laws Berta and Tom Danielson and Shirley Sayer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pat’s spiritual friend, Sister Margaret Ryan of Regina will also mourn her passing. Pat was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Mary Hughes and three of her brothers, Chuck, Earl and Herb. Pat worked in various jobs throughout her life, including The Royal Bank, Sears, J.C. Williamson Jewellers, finishing her working career as Office Manager with the Provincial Library in Regina. Pat was an active church member, teaching Sunday School in many of the churches she attended. While living in Prince Albert in the seventies, Pat was an active member of the P.A. CosmoPals. Among Mom’s passions were her family, gourmet cooking and baking. She enjoyed each one of her grandchildren individually, cooked many a gourmet meal, and the smell of her cinnamon buns would bring us kids running from blocks away. Mom’s greatest challenge came later in life at the young age of 65, when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Mom met the challenge head on. She and Ted worked with Alzheimer support groups to further education and understanding of this disease. Mom moved into Herb Bassett home, in May 2005. She received excellent care from her second family, the staff of Herb Bassett Home who also adopted Ted as one of their own. Funeral Service will take place at The Cathedral Church of St. Alban the Martyr on Monday February 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm, presided over by The Very Reverend Kenneth Davis. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 – 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3K1 or to the Herb Bassett Nursing Home, 1220 – 25th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 4N9.
