Padhmavathi Naidu
(December 22, 1940 – March 28, 2024)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, and friend, Padhmavathi (“Pat”) Naidu. Pat passed away peacefully at the age of 83 in Prince Albert, Canada on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, with her family by her side. Pat will forever remain in our hearts, remembered fondly for her sense of adventure, optimism, humour, strength, courage, bravery, and vibrant spirit, which touched the lives of all fortunate enough to know her.
Born in Durban, South Africa in 1940, she shared her childhood with her dear siblings, Devi, Dee, and Chan, forming strong bonds that lasted a lifetime. Throughout her life in South Africa, Pat excelled as both an educator and a principal of a preschool and daycare, and as a businesswoman, leaving a lasting impact on those she encountered. Her dedication to shaping young minds and her entrepreneurial spirit were evident in all she did, inspiring those around her to strive for excellence.
Pat’s move to Canada in 2010 marked a new chapter in her life, where she continued to spread warmth and wisdom to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Pat was a beloved figure within the Prince Albert community and is known for her involvement volunteering at Victoria Hospital in the Pediatric Ward and through Meals on Wheels, and for her work at St. Michael’s Daycare and Ronald McDonald House. She had a passion for educating children, reading, writing, teaching, and fostering creativity. Pat found joy in traveling around the world, spending time with her family in South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.
Pat leaves behind her husband, Eric Pretty; three loving children, Prema, Nerin, and Nemsha; caring sons-in-law, Mark, Pragasan, and Andrei; her six adored grandchildren, Veromi, Shuvani, Sarushen, Deronah, Shuari, and Ruheen; siblings Devi and Chan; as well as her many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her first husband Poorushotam Naidu, her mother Kankamma Naidu, her father Seenivasa Naidu, and her sisters Mirigadam and Dee. Her family was the center of her world, and her legacy of love and strength will continue to guide them in the years to come.
In honouring Pat’s life, let us remember her strength, kindness, resilience, stoicism, and practical wisdom. May her spirit continue to shine brightly through the lives of her family and friends, bringing comfort and solace during this time of loss.
