KULYK, Oristeen Marie
May 23, 1942 – July 17, 2022
Oristeen left us peacefully on the morning of Sunday, July 17, 2022, after losing her battle with cancer.
Oristeen was born in the Brooksby District, on May 23, 1942 to proud parents Mike and Katherine Kulyk. She attended Irvington Elementary School, two years at Melfort Collegiate, then graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, SK. She entered psychiatric nurses training in North Battleford, SK and graduated in 1963. She remained in North Battleford, for a short period of time, moved to Yorkton briefly, then on to Prince Albert, when a new mental health facility opened in 1969. She obtained her social work degree from U of S and remained employed at Prince Albert Mental Health Center as psychiatric social worker until her retirement.
Oristeen loved to travel and ventured to many countries abroad including – Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, Ukraine, Poland, Cuba, Turkey and Israel. She also avoided the harsh Saskatchewan winters by vacationing in Rincó de Guayabitos, Mexico for many years with many friends. She also cruised the Panama Canal, as well as many Alaskan cruises with life-long friends. She also enjoyed down hill skiing with friends and frequented Jasper and Banff slopes. Oristeen also loved her Saskatchewan Roughriders and was an avid fan and season ticket holder for many years. A yearly highlight was attending many Grey Cup Games and parties with her football friends.
As her many friends would know, Oristeen’s greatest weakness was her love of shopping. She could shop alone or with friends and always felt she got a great deal – for an awesome price.
Aside from her love of travel, shopping or her Riders, her greatest passion was her faith, which she lived daily. Her strong belief in God and prayer was her remedy for all of life’s difficulties. Her journey has begun to meet her Saviour and be reunited with many family members.
Oristeen was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Katherine Kulyk, brother Peter, and an infant brother at birth. She is survived by her brother Joe (Janet), her nieces Juli-ana (Shawn), Katherine (Jason), nephew Jeffrey (Debra) and great nieces Khloe and Eloise.
