In loving memory of:
Orest Nekurak of Prince Albert, SK
(Oct 11, 1937 to Nov 11, 2014).
Orest was born to William and Elizabeth Nekurak and raised in Saskatoon, SK. He moved to P.A. shortly after marrying Gertrude Maffenbeier of Assiniboia on September 3, 1960. Orest spent 28 years as a chef at the Provincial Correctional Centre and many years as part-time meat-cutter at Harold’s IGA. He also pursued entrepreneurial interests as a business marketing specialist. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed nothing more than summers spent with family and friends at Waskesiu Lake where he took great pleasure in teaching the next generation of fishermen how to get the perfect jack fillet. In later years he treasured time spent playing card games and cribbage. His community involvement included a life-long committment to the A.C.T. Orest is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Gertrude Nekurak (nee Maffenbeier); his sons Gregory (Bonnie), Warren (Rebecca), and Brian (Kym) Nekurak and two daughters Michele (Randy) Mathers and Leslie (Jim) Smith. He is also survived by his two siblings; Maurice (Ruth) Nekurak of Assiniboia and Olive Goodwin of Saskatoon. He was the proud grandfather of twelve and great grandfather of eight and enjoyed numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014 with Bruce Goertzen officiating at Pineview Terrace Lodge in Prince Albert, SK where he resided for the past year (1200 – 24th Street West, please use south entrance behind the Herb Bassett Home). Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Pineview Terrace Lodge, 1200- 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 4N9.
