It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ole Gustave Runkvist, on Friday, July 24, 2020, in Prince Albert, SK. Ole was born on Tuesday, July 10, 1945, on the farm in Waitville, SK, to Eric and Florence Runkvist.
He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Petra Arp of Star City, SK, Alpha Harper of Saskatoon, SK; his sister-in-law, Shelley Runkvist of Airdrie, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nehpews. He was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Florence (nee Hanson) Runkvist; his brothers, Einar Runkvist and Swen Runkvist; his brothers-in-law, Bill Harper and Victor Arp; his nephews, Jim Harper and Gordon Harper; and his great-niece, Amber Jones.
After the passing of his father, Ole’s family moved to Birch Hills where he went to school, and completed his grade twelve. Ole enjoyed riding his motorcycle, along with building and flying model airplanes. His first job was with Robert Lavigne building houses in the Birch Hills area. During this tenure, he unfortunately received lifelong scars in 1967 due to a gas explosion while installing a new vault at the Birch Hills Credit Union. He later moved to Melfort to build homes for the Co-op Building Center. After this slowed down, he moved to Prince Albert and co-formed Midway Construction with Victor Arp and Einar Runkvist. He was a proud member of the local radio remote control club, where he flew the many self-designed airplanes that he built over the years. He worked for different construction companies over the years, with his longest run being with Span West Construction, where he retired in 2017 due to illness. A Funeral Service will be held for Ole at a later date. Online condolences may be left at https://www.arbormemorial.ca/en/riverpark/obituaries/ole-runkvist/52387 .
