It is with great sadness that the family of Olaf Pederson announce his passing on Thursday, July 20th, 2017.
Olaf was born on February 11th, 1933 on the farm north of Weldon, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of seven children born to Peder and Jennie Pederson. He started school at Roosevelt and finished at Pahonan. In 1954 Olaf joined the Saskatchewan Smoke Jumpers, a group of parachutists engaged in keeping forest fires under control in northern Saskatchewan. In 1957 Olaf apprenticed as a plumber. Olaf and Hope were married on June 27th, 1958. After their marriage they moved to Port Alberni, B.C. where Olaf was employed at the Alberni Pulp and Paper mill. In 1961 they moved back to Saskatchewan where they began farming his mother’s land. In 1962 he purchased a backhoe and went into the general excavating business. He installed a lot of the farm water and sewer projects in the Weldon, Kinistino, Pathlow, Steep Creek, Garrick, Choiceland and Torch River areas. He especially enjoyed meeting the people and took pride in doing his best job. Olaf was a big man with a big heart. He was kind and always willing to help thus opening his home to support foster children for over 40 years. He loved all his children dearly and was looking forward to being a great grandpa. He was also planning and looking forward to celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary in June of 2018. He loved nothing better than to sit back and listen to “his girls” sing and harmonize. He loved when laughter filled the room and it would fill his heart to over flowing. With failing health in Sept. of 2016 Olaf became a resident of the Birchview Nursing home. With their tender care he flourished and looked forward to Hope’s visit every day.
Olaf will be lovingly remembered by: Hope, his wife of 59 years. His daughter Deanna Scott (Ray), her children Scott (Melissa) and Christie (Ian). His daughter Lisa Pederson, her children Nicole (Ryan) and Jordan (Ashley). His brother Henry Pederson of British Columbia along with numerous nieces and nephews and special family members Sharon (Mike) and Donna (Cory).
Olaf was predeceased by His Parents: Peder and Jennie Pederson, his daughter Donna Pederson. His four sisters Alice (August) Hovdebo, Hilda (Jack) McCormick, Julia Simpso and Lillian Pederson. His Brother Roy Pederson. His Mother and Father in law Edrie and Alfred Gunderson.
A celebration of Life will take place at the Weldon Auditorium at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25th, 2017.
