Norma Wall (nee Martin)
May 22, 1933 – February 8, 2021
It is with profound sorrow that the family of Norma Wall (nee Martin) announces her passing at the age of 87 with her family by her side, after a fierce battle with cancer.
Mom was born in the Yankee Valley District to Albert and Mary (McDowall) Martin. She grew up on the family farm with her two sisters and two brothers, taking her schooling in the little country school.
She loved to help around the farm especially picking wild fruit that grew in the area as well as berries in the pines with her family. Her loving mom would use these berries to make preserves for all to enjoy in the winter.
Mom told us of many special Sunday afternoons making homemade ice cream with the old hand-turned ice cream maker. She enjoyed how good it tasted especially licking the paddles clean. She also loved turning the handle on the old butter churn, then eating the butter with her mom’s fresh-baked bread. She thought that the greatest thing most of all.
As she grew older, she attended Business College in Prince Albert, later working at the Imperial Bank in Prince Albert, and then moved to the Bank of Nova Scotia in Shellbrook.
In 1955, she married Rineald and they built the family farm side by side in the Sturgeon River area. After 46 years they retired to Shellbrook which was hard on mom because it was hard to leave the farm she loved.
She will be remembered over the years for her hard work, love of her flowers and large garden, and jar after jar of preserves. She made the best bread, cinnamon buns, and baked goods and they will be missed.
Mom loved collecting poetry, pictures and always enjoyed little road trips, taking in the beautiful prairie scenes.
She so loved her children and treasured her grandchildren and her great-grandchild, always being there for us. She always enjoyed preparing family meals, especially the one at Christmas, New Years’, and Thanksgiving which were extra special. Mom always made our birthday cakes special by always adding just a little extra icing.
In the later years, mom’s favorite programs on T.V. was the news and curling, and many reruns of Little House on the Prairie. Sundays she would also enjoy the different gospel programs, taking in the messages and enjoying the music.
Mom was selfless, generous, giving of her time, and never lost her zest for life.
Mom has begun her new journey, one that will start by meeting her heavenly father within the embrace of her beloved Rineald.
“Across the miles, we have walked with you, In the deep green forest, on the shores of sand, and when our time on earth is through, In heaven we will hold your hand…”
