It is with profound sadness that the families of Nichole LaVallee announce her sudden passing on March 7, 2021. Born August 10, 1994 in Prince Albert, Nichole came into this world quickly, barely making it to the hospital in time for her arrival, and full of light. She was an exuberant child who loved school, swimming at her grandparents’ pool and connecting with others—whether it was with the veteran community, her cousins that were more like brothers, or making new friends along the way. Her grandparents played a very active role in her upbringing and were often her go-tos for support.
Nichole was a (com)passionate person, friend, and family member. She lived with her heart on her sleeve and was always so giving to those around her. She had a way of being in a room and making you feel seen and loved so easily. She idolized her big sister growing up which turned into adoration for her nieces as she got older. She never hesitated to get on the ground and play or lean into a new adventure.
Nichole attended Holy Cross School for K-8 and then moved to St. Mary’s High School (Grad 2012) where she started to grow into her own as a friend, athlete, and adventurer. Nichole met her father when she was 16 and said it felt like puzzle pieces synching up within her for the first time. She now could see herself fully reflected in the people around her and maintained a fierce connection with her dad.
She travelled to France in 2010, which was a formidable experience that inspired her to join the Royal Canadian Army Reserve (2012-2014) while starting at the University of Saskatchewan to pursue her dream of being a teacher. During her time in Saskatoon, she grew her tribe and found a love of football. She played with the Valkyries during the 2016-2018 seasons; her bubbly personality was contagious on and off the field. She convocated with a Bachelor of Education in 2017.
Nichole came back to PA to teach, enjoying coaching even more than the classroom. But her adult life would start to be shaped by competing forces of darkness and light, for while she continued to find her footing as an adult in many ways, she also struggled more and more with mental health. Realizing that teaching may not be her true calling she turned to Youth Care Work and started to focus more inwards. Though many attempts were made to mend, Nichole left this world before she was able to heal completely. Nichole will be remembered for her big smile, welcoming embrace, and light that lives on in those that were fortunate enough to know her.
She is preceded in death by her Grandpa Schultz and her partner, Dean Fisher. Nichole is survived by her parents, Peggy-Lee LaVallee (David), Jim Schultz (Shauna); her sister, Veronica (Braydon, Ellie, Bexley); her grandparents, Floyd & Geraldine LaVallee; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A Private Family Service will be held. A livestream of the service will be available at 1:30 p.m. on Friday March 12, 2021 at the following link: https://youtu.be/SJQDJlonaY8 .
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations may be made in Nichole’s name to Saskatchewan Mental Health Services, CMHA Saskatchewan Division, 2702 12th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 1J2.
