It is with deep sadness that the family of Neil “Mac” Welch announce his passing on May 22, 2011 at the age of 61 years.
Mac was predeceased by his parents Mary & Melvin Welch, sister Geraldine, brother Stewart (Bud), nephew Duncan Welch and brother-in-law Frank Walker.
Mac is survived by his siblings; Ethel Walker, Leroy, Leslie (Janet), Lance (Betty), Stacey (Bev), Lenore Neufeld, Bruce, Grant, Earl (Julie), Glen (Penny), Lois (Ron), Ralph (Holly), as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other family relatives and friends.
Mac grew up around the Brancepeth area and attended school in Birch Hills where he graduated in 1969. He worked at various jobs in the Hagen area and in Melfort. Mac loved hockey and was actively involved with the Kinistino Tiger Bruins, as a trainer and scout. He also worked with the P. A. Raiders as a scout while working in Prince Albert. Mac moved to Alberta and worked at the Al Omeing Game Farm. He then was employed by the S.P.C.A. and later a guard at the Prince Albert Penitentiary. It was from there that he took on his job as safety Co-ordinator, which took him from province to province. His last job was at Rocanville, SK where he had been working for the last few years.
Mac had a love for big horses and would get great joy taking family and friends for wagon rides. He was an avid gardener, and would share the fruits of his labour. Mac enjoyed the outdoors; he loved to go fishing, hunting and cutting wood for his wood stove. He had a great sense of humour and loved to tell jokes and share his many stories. Mac was small in stature but his heart was bigger than him. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. You were so much a part of ours and many people’s lives.
The Memorial Service for Mac was held from the Beatty Community Hall, Beatty, SK on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave MacPherson officiating. The interment will follow in the Kinistino Cemetery at a later date.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Canadian Down Syndrome Society or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
