Myrtle Hadland
April 10, 1920 – May 27, 2014
Myrtle Elvira Hadland passed away May 27, 2014 in the Melfort hospital at the age of 94 years. She was born in the Queen Maude district north of Weldon. Myrtle was a long-time resident of the Weldon area, also residing in Birch Hills and Kinistino for some time. Myrtle made many friends, both young and old, during her 94 years. She was an avid knitter and crocheter, making many siwash sweaters, baby attire and doilies and even tackled a crochet version of “The Last Supper” of gigantic proportions. She loved having company, sharing stories, and a visit over coffee and a treat or two. Myrtle was well known for her baking, especially her buns, which she often sent home a care package with whoever was visiting, her way of showing her love. Myrtle was an avid gardener, canning and pickling her bounty, again to share with those she loved. Myrtle's green thumb and love of gardening has been passed down to some of her children and grandchildren. Myrtle married Rolf Hadland, November 22, 1939, and together raised four sons, who she leaves to mourn her passing: Gene (Lorraine) and their kids: Troy (Allyson), Tani (Thane), Holly (Mark), Tyler (Tamara) and their children; Leroy (Judy) and their kids: Stacey (Laura), Torey (Carri), Jana (Stuart) and their children; Rick (Brenda) and their kids: Allison (Jeremy), Meagan (Brent); Myron (Ingrid) and their son Quinn. She was very proud of her grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her nieces: Donna Hayward, Shirley Olson (Elmer), Iris McWilliams and their families; her nephew: Larry Hedlund (Anita) and their family; as well as many friends and neighbours. Myrtle was predeceased by: her husband Rolf, her parents Gunda and Olaf Hedlund, her sister Violet and brother-in-law Sandy McWilliams, her niece Sandra McWilliams, and her brother Ernest and sister-in-law Laura Hedlund. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with a celebration of Myrtle's life at the Weldon Auditorium afterward. All those who knew her are welcome. Donations in Myrtle's memory may be made to the Weldon Country Villa or the Weldon Country Villa auxiliary. The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate care Myrtle received during her short time in the Melfort hospital. They would especially like to thank the staff at the Jubilee Lodge and Weldon Country Villa where Myrtle resided for the past several years, for their kind and loving care. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium. Brian and Bev Stobbs, Funeral Directors. 306.763.8488 www.MacKenzieChapel.ca
