Myrtle Doreen Melchert
January 11, 1924 – December 22, 2012
Myrtle (Edgington) was born January 11, 1924 in Melfort, SK. She is lovingly remembered by her children Wayne (Delphine) Melchert, Prince Albert & their sons Derek (Nicole) and Chad (Colleen), Marlene (Richard) Hermann, Grande Prairie, AB & their children Kim, Gene, Leah and Wesley (Lindsey), Annette (Doug) Laveniuk, Grande Prairie, AB and their sons Warren (Serena) and Mathew (Nicole); 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; sister Leola Quinnel, Kittanning PA, USA; sister-in-law Nora Edgington, Galahad, AB; aunt Freda Tyke, Melfort; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband Vernon Melchert; parents Albert and Veda Edgington; brother Fred Edgington; sister and brother-in-law Eleanor and Telford Gustafson; brothers-in-law Gordon Quinnel, Carl Melchert, Roland Melchert, Bill Howard and William Lassen; sisters-in law Norma Lassen, Erma Howard, Peggy Melchert, Lueva Melchert; and numerous extended family members. Myrtle grew up in the Silver Park, SK area. Her fondest memories were of her parents, grandparents, siblings and friends. She often recounted stories and would always smile and laugh at these memories. Myrtle met and married the love of her life Vernon Melchert in 1949. They lived in Carragana, Porcupine Plain and Prince Albert, SK and had just celebrated their 50th Anniversary shortly before Vern’s passing. Myrtle was a warm and caring person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, knitting, listening to music and reminiscing about times gone by. We will all miss her wonderful smile, the knitted gifts and her many stories. She recently resided at IKA’s Care Home and the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert. A Celebration of Myrtle’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at Carragana, SK at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made in Myrtle’s memory to a charity of donor’s choice.
