JACOBS – Murray
1951 – 2020
There was a private Memorial Service held for Murray. For those who were unable to attend the service due to Covid 19 restrictions, there is a link below the family wishes to share of Murray’s Memorial Service.
On August 18, 2020, Murray Jacobs, loving husband, son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle passed away at the age of 69, at St Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, after a courageous battle with cancer. Murray was born in Shellbrook on January 3, 1951, to Alf & Anna Jacobs. Murray met his wife Yvette (Provencher) in high school and in 1973 they were married and moved to Prince Albert to start their life together.
If you didn’t know Murray Jacobs, here is a snapshot of who he was..
Murray always gave 110% and showed little forgiveness to those that did not work and learn and play sports with the same drive, (and clean). When Yvette was asked what it was that attracted her to Murray she talked about his energy. Murray had to be moving and doing. Murray loved his sports. Their life went from Fastball season to hockey, remember, just to play was not enough. Murray worked to excel and was rewarded by playing for the Shellbrook Elks to attacking bases in the Saskatoon special men’s fastball division.
Murray was the guy who carried bats, balls, and bases in his vehicle in case a game broke out at an event. Murray was quick to grab a ball and play catch with a kid. And at any event Murray was moving from table to table chatting with people about what they were up to. Murray didn’t just nod and say “oh that’s interesting” he wanted to understand, he was curious and often spread the stories of people’s successes to other. He had a unique way of making friends with everyone he talked to. Murray never backed away from a good party which he was often the life of, and oh how he loved to make people laugh and could get away with pranks and practical jokes, which most people could not. He might have liked a cold beer and clam as well.
Murray loved water whether he was on it, in it or making it perfect to drink. Murray held many jobs in his working life, but the water treatment was the one that his eyes seemed to ignite when discussing. Water treatment incorporates chemistry, filtration and the mechanics of making it all work so that it comes into your home safe for use. Murray understood it all and would gently shake his head when troubleshooting people’s issues.
Let’s keep talking about water. Murray’s happy place was Whelan Bay on White Swan Lake. Four seasons of outdoor activities and socializing. Murray loved cutting trail or sledding or fishing (ice or from a boat) chopping wood, swimming, hanging at the beach and water skiing. Murray and Yvette loved the lake so much they retired there in 2008. When Murray and Yvette started going on hot holidays, they ended up spending a month on Maui where a day didn’t go by that Murray was in the ocean snorkeling.
Most winters found Murray on his “green cat” on the trails that he helped build and maintain through the Whiteswan Snowmobile Club that he and Yvette helped organize. Murray had a variety of jobs throughout his life. In each one he added to his wealth of knowledge and skill. With the new skills, he loved to help neighbors, friends and relatives.
Murray was predeceased by his parents, Alf and Anna and his mother in law, Denise Provencher.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 47 years, Yvette. His siblings Loretta (Lawrence) and their son Trevor (Karen); Neil (Delorie) and children Mark (Dana), Brea, Kirsten; Marlene (Duane) and children, Carla, Melissa (Kris), Jessie; his father-in-law Dominique Provencher; Yvette’s siblings, Raymond (Murielle) and children, Ray (Carrie), Michelle (Travis); Lorraine (Craig) and children, Rachael (Doug), Drew (Sofia); Gilbert (Janice) and children, Carlie (James), Shane (Tiffany), Kyle (Jamie); Julie (Brian) and children, Adam, Hannah (Daniel) as well as many great-grand nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, and friends.
There will be a private Memorial Service held for Murray. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Murray to either the Shellbrook Sports Grounds (c/o of Town of Shellbrook Box 40 Shellbrook, SK S0J 2E0), or to the Rose Garden Hospice (Box 2092 Prince Albert, SK S6V 5R3).
