May 27, 1939 – October 26, 2025

With great sadness we announce the passing of Murray George Turnbull, age 86, resident of Sherwood Park Alberta, on October 26, 2025. Murray was born in Calgary on May 27, 1939, to Sandy and Gladys Turnbull and he grew up on a farm outside of Wolseley, Saskatchewan with his two younger sisters Joyce and Margaret.

Murray is lovingly remembered by his daughter; Marnie (Sean) Evans; son Chris Turnbull; sisters Joyce Villeneuve and Margaret (Clayton) Bettschen; in-laws Dr. Don and Barb Spady; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his wife Leslie Anna-Marie Turnbull as well as Alex Villenueve and his parents Sandy and Gladys Turnbull.

Murray earned a degree in Agriculture from the U of A in 1961. His first post for the Department of Lands and Forests was in Peace River doing land inspections in the area.

In 1965 he moved to Medicine Hat and on October 9, 1965, he married Leslie Anna-Marie Spady, a marriage lasting 54 years until she passed away on March 24, 2019.

In 1973, the family moved to Sherwood Park and in 1976 Murray was named head of Land Management and Development. In 1988 he became the Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Lands until 1992.

Retiring in 1994, he became a volunteer bus driver for two senior long term care facilities for 12 years. A life-long curler he also learned to golf…something he really enjoyed. He travelled throughout his life and in retirement there were cruises and trips to South America, Eastern Canada, and Europe. Around 1997, they began to spend their winters in the Apache Junction area of Arizona which continued until 2018.

Our family is grateful to the staff at the Emerald Hills Chartwell, where Murray called home for the last six years as well as to all the nurses and doctors that provided care and comfort in the final months of his life.

A remembrance of life will be held at the Glenwood Funeral Home (52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park) at 2 pm on November 21, 2025. Reception to follow.
