Murray Archie Cameron

October 13, 1942 – June 2025

Murray Archie Cameron passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy not in titles or trophies, but written in the hearts of the many lives he quietly touched over more than eight decades.

Born October 13, 1942, Murray was a working man in the truest sense — someone who believed that hard work and discipline, paired with kindness, were the greatest gifts you could give another person. He lived that belief every day.

Murray spent years as a teacher — a calling that ran in the family. His mother was an English teacher, his father a mechanic, and Murray found a way to honour them both: he became a teacher of mechanics, blending the precision of the trade with the patience of the classroom, keeping things running and keeping people together.

Outside the classroom, he continued teaching — on the ice as a hockey coach, and on the water as a guide leading canoe tours through the wild rivers of Northern Saskatchewan. Retirement never slowed him down: he remained active well into his senior years as an avid curler, and serving as a first responder, saving lives and never once seeking recognition for it.

He helped thousands of people over the course of his life. He just never kept count.

Murray believed the best lessons weren’t taught — they were lived as life experience. Whether it was a fishing line, a farm chore, or an unexpected situation that demanded more than a sixteen-year-old thought he had, Murray had a way of putting you exactly where you needed to be and trusting you to rise. His family carries those moments with them still.

Murray is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Gloria; his four children Dwayne Cameron, Ian Cameron, Karon Cameron, and Michelle Groeger; and 13 grandchildren who knew him as the kind of grandfather who showed you that a good day’s work carries its own reward.

He will be deeply missed, and quietly present in every act of kindness his family carries forward.

Come and go tea will be Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 1:00PM to 3:30PM at the Shellbrook Seniors Hall, Shellbrook, SK.

In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Murray to the Saskatchewan Animal Protection Service in Melfort.
