Murdoch Carriere

The family of Murdoch Victor William Carriere sadly announce his passing on April 24, 2026, at the age of 77 years, in Prince Albert, SK.
Murdoch was born and raised in Cumberland House, SK. He grew up on the land, often missing school to be out trapping, commercial fishing and hunting. From 1975 until present day, Murdoch and Terry owned and operated Niska Lodge, taking this over from Murdoch’s parents. His first job with the Government of Saskatchewan was as a Resource Patrolman with the Department of Natural Resources in Uranium City. This was followed by his position as a Conservation Officer with the Government of Saskatchewan – Environment and Resource Management in many locations including La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows, Creighton, Southend, Green Lake, Moose Jaw and Regina. His last position was Director of Fire Management and Forest Protection with Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management, Government of Saskatchewan, in Prince Albert, from which he retired in 2003.
Murdoch loved the outdoors, especially hunting waterfowl, fishing, dog sledding, bird watching and golfing. A “larger than life” personality made Murdoch hard to forget! He was an excellent public speaker and a lifelong land and water researcher; he remained a passionate advocate for the Cumberland Delta. A Cree speaker and Knowledge Holder, Murdoch lived with the spirit of minopimatisiwin – the good life, and one full of adventure.
Murdoch will be lovingly remembered by his spouse, Terry Carriere; his daughter, Amy Carriere, and children, Lilly and Owen Slack; his daughter, Dana Carriere (Adrian Waskewitch); his siblings, Darlene Sahyes, and children, Mabel Sahyes Morin, Jennifer Sahyes, and predeceased children, Debra McAuley, William McAuley, Randy McAuley, Solomon McAuley; Pauline McKay, and children, Jeannine Hryniuk, Corwin Hryniuk, Danny McKay, Cher McKay, Claude McKay, Genevieve McKay;
Solomon Carriere (Renée Carriere) and children, Réal Carriere, Michela Carriere, Martina Carriere and predeceased daughter, Jacqueline Carriere; Delores Laliberty (Eric Laliberty) and children, Crystal Laliberty, Terry Damato and Eric Jr. Laliberty.; his sister-in-law, Gail (David) Forbes and family; his sister-in-law, Lois Forbes and family; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Murdoch was predeceased by his parents, Josephine and William Carriere; and his siblings, Donna Carriere and Jeanine Carriere; his father and mother-in-law, Harry and Norma Forbes; his paternal and maternal grandparents, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Wake service will commence at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Celebration of Murdoch’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Both services will be held at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre – Main Hall, 815 Exhibition Drive, Prince Albert, SK. Guests are welcome to wear camo in honour of Murdoch’s love of hunting and the outdoors. Please join the family for a light lunch after the Celebration of Life Service.
