Shelby Marie (Tweidt) Mayer
1961 – 2024
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Shelby Marie (Tweidt) Mayer, who went home peacefully on July 21, 2024, in the arms of her children. Shelby was born on December 24, 1961, in Nipawin, SK, to her loving parents, Donald and Helen (Elves) Tweidt. She was raised in the small town of Wadena, SK, as the middle child alongside her siblings, Pamela and Mark Tweidt. Shelby then lived in Saskatoon, Calgary, and Red Deer, but eventually settled close to her family in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Known for her vibrant spirit, deep devotion to her family, and her faith, Shelby lived a wonderful life filled with love and adventure. She embarked on her journey of motherhood at the age of 22 with the birth of her son, David. Her love for exploration and commitment to her family were evident when she traveled to Europe with David when he was just seven months old. At 34, she welcomed her daughter, Sarah. Shelby was an extraordinary mother, celebrated for her unconditional love, remarkable values, unwavering faith, and compassionate nature.
In 1999, Shelby married her sweetheart, Mike. They recently celebrated 25 years of marriage and friendship on January 23, 2024. In 2005, they moved from the city of Prince Albert to the countryside, where Shelby found joy in her beautiful home, surrounded by animals and fulfilling her dream of having her own horses and round pen. Their years together were filled with treasured moments and travel, including yearly summer holidays to the mountains, winter getaways to Elk Ridge, relaxing trips to Manitou Beach Spa, and the joy of watching their children and grandchildren grow.
Shelby had a deep love for nature, healthy living, and cooking. At the age of 45, she pursued her passion for culinary arts and completed a professional cooking course, finishing at the top of her class. Her culinary creations were beloved by all who had the pleasure of tasting them. Shelby’s career spanned 32 years in the health region, where she made a significant impact. Her love for her clients was evident, and they adored her in return. She retired at the end of 2020, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and integrity.
Above all, Shelby’s greatest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren. She took immense pride in raising her family and creating a loving home. Shelby spent her time riding her horses, gardening, cooking, making natural products, taking long walks, and embarking on spontaneous trips. In her later years, she found joy in helping her daughter film videos around Saskatchewan, becoming her dedicated and fun videographer.
Shelby’s legacy of love, kindness, faith, and adventure will forever be remembered by her family and friends. Shelby is forever cherished by her beloved husband, Mike; her children, David (Christina) and Sarah (Allan); her siblings, Pam and Mark (Laurie); her cherished grandchildren, Keenan, Paisley, Ava, and Taya; her nieces and nephew, Elisha (Tyler), Chad (Lauren), and Kelly (Zach); her Aunty Hazel Rhodes and cousin Joe Rhodes; and numerous other close family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Don and Helen Tweidt. Though she is no longer with us, Shelby’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In the last few months of Shelby’s life, she found comfort in her beloved home, surrounded by her cherished family and tenderly cared for by her daughter, Sarah, with the support of their entire family. Shelby bathed in the love of her husband, children, and grandchildren until her final moment when she opened her eyes to the eternity she had longed for her whole life with the Lord. We also wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Prince Albert Rose Garden Hospice for their compassionate care during Shelby’s final days.
A celebration of Shelby’s life will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 3:30 PM at Embassy Community Church, 888 Central Avenue, Prince Albert Saskatchewan.
Shelby’s vibrant and radiant spirit, along with her kindness and unwavering faith, will live on, reflected in the faces of her children, until we meet again on that great day.
