Ruby Vera Nakonechny
May 9, 1943 – March 8, 2022
Ruby Vera Nakonechny passed away in her sleep on March 8, 2022 at the age of 78 at the North Haven Care Home in Smeaton, SK.
Ruby was born May 9, 1943 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan to Vera and Albert Banin. Ruby was the eldest of four children, her two sisters: Beatrice Banin (Garry Waugh), Evelyn (Andy) Pacholek, and one brother Raye Banin. Ruby enjoyed spending time with friends and cousins playing piano, going to dances, singing in the choir, skating, tobogganing behind her home on a big hill and going to hockey games with her sisters, brother and her father and she belonged to the United Church. Ruby was a daddy’s girl. Ruby loved reading books and took on writing many pen pal letters and had many from all over Canada.. Ruby went to school in Wapella till grade 9. She went to work after leaving school and worked at a nursing home. She also worked as a Nanny in Manitoba and then back to Saskatchewan to work for many years in a hotel washing dishes. Ruby then moved to Alberta and worked at the Parliament building in Edmonton as a lunch cart girl and in the cafeteria. She was very generous, and she was loved. Ruby bought her siblings many gifts while working. She met the love of her life Tony, moved away, and got married on March 14, 1970. They lived in Prince Albert until 1975 and then moved to Meath Park, SK. She enjoyed going to the beach at Candle Lake with her family.
Ruby was predeceased by her: grandparents James (Martha) Bannin and Jacob (Sanna) Soini; her parents Vera (Albert) Banin; sister-in-law Lorraine Banin; nieces: Nicole Nakonechny and Denae Nakonechny -Lawrence; and parents in law Joe (Alex) Nakonechny. Ruby is survived by her husband Tony and their four children: John, Anthony, Brent (friend Dyan Weeks) and his children Joshe and Toby, Michael and many in-laws, nephews, and nieces. She enjoyed playing bingo once a week at the North Haven care home in Smeaton and talking with the residents there. The family would like to thank Jeanette and the North Haven Care Home staff for their dedication in looking after her wellbeing.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the Candle Lake Recreational Hall. Condolences for the family may be left at www.grays.ca
