Rita Potter
1939 – 2026
Rita Victoria Potter of Hoey, SK, daughter of Wilson and Christie (nee Bannerman) Pocha, wife of the late John Edward Potter, passed away on July 14, 2026, at the age of 86. Rita passed away peacefully with family by her side.
She leaves to mourn her four children, Elaine and Mark Chicoine of rural Prince Albert, Warren and Lucille Potter of Hoey, Connie and Jeff Henderson of Kamloops, BC, and Neil and Paulette Potter of Hoey. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita was raised on the family farm near MacDowall, SK. She married the love of her life John on January 18, 1958. She lived on the family farm west of Hoey until her passing. John and Rita shared many passions in life and held a very high regard for their family and faith, which she held onto until the end. Rita also had a passion for the community and held a wide variety of friends. She loved to laugh which was very apparent when she was with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or her various groups of friends which included bowling, exercise, church and coffee buds. While accompanying John to his many auction sales, Mom made many life-long friends.
Throughout their marriage Rita could be found outside fixing machinery with the boys, working with the cattle, hauling bales, or attending her massive garden used to prepare delicious meals to feed her family and hired men who were considered part of the family. In later years, even though Rita was not actively involved, she was still very aware of what went on with the day-to-day farm operations. It didn’t matter if it was 5:00 A.M. or 10:00 P.M. you could find her standing watching and waving from the kitchen window as the guys came and went. If she wasn’t at the window she was in bed listening for the last truck or combine to come in so she knew everyone was home safe, then she could go to sleep.
She said many times over her final two weeks how impressed she was with the care she received from both the Victoria Hospital and the Rose Garden Hospice. Mom’s family would like to thank the Doctors and Caregivers from the Victoria Hospital and the Rose Garden Hospice for their compassionate care for Mom and her family at this most difficult time.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Albans Cathedral, 1410 Bishop Mclean Crescent, Prince Albert, SK with Archdeacon Andrew Hoskin officiating. In lie of other tributes, memorial donations in memory of Rita may be made to the Rose Garden Hospice, 500 38th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. https://www.rosegardenhospice.ca/
