Patricia Lynn Knutson
September 11, 1943- November 21, 2022
Patricia Lynn Knutson, passed away peacefully at Mont St. Joseph Home on November 21, 2022. Pat, as everyone knew her, was born September 11, 1943, in Prince Albert to Charles and Lila Scaife. She had one older brother, Lorne.
Her first home was on a farm at Forest Gate, but her early years were spent growing up in the Hazeldell area of Prince Albert. She attended Central School and the Academy Presentation of Mary High School. When she was studying at the Academy, she took their Business Course. When she was growing up her Grandma Margaret lived with them, and she had a special bond with her.
She met Selmer David Knutson (Dave) in 1960 and in September 1961 they were married at St Alban’s Cathedral. They lived in Naicam until after Benita was born in August of 1962 and then moved to PA. Arlene was born in 1965, Cordell in 1968, Vernon in 1971 and Christopher in 1972.
She loved being a mom and homemaker and stayed home with their kids, running a daycare in her home. Many children called her Auntie Pat or Grandma Pat and became like family. Later in life she worked for a daycare as their cook. She loved children.
Through the influence of Jim Hill, and the Alliance Church ministries, Mom (and Dad) met Jesus and began a life of prayer and following Him. She was a prayer chain leader and spent hours on the phone listening to the needs of many in her faith community.
She loved to knit and crochet and in summer she would start making mitts every year. On Christmas morning there would be mitts for every grandchild that matched their coat! She also knit mitts for community projects, including the mitt tree. The Grandchildren loved her cookies, and she gave many a container of cookies away. There were always cookies in the freezer for visitors.
Pat was predeceased by her husband Selmer David Knutson; her parents, Charles and Lila Scaife; and her brother Lorne Scaife.
Pat’s legacy lives on through her 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, with more to come: Benita (Gordon) of PA and their children, Jason (Joanne) of Kenya, Michelle (Ryan) and her son Owen of Bethune, Scott, and Gregory of PA, Arlene (Darrell) Ring of Calgary and their children; Grant (Amanda) and children Karter and Sophia, Graham, and Beth, Cory (Loraine) Knutson of Spalding, their children Heather (Jessie) their children Ivan, Lauren, and Cheyenne, Amy and Jayme (Matthew) Hartwig. Vernon (Lana) Knutson of Riverton Manitoba, their children, Olivia, Reuben, Rachel, Emilie, and Finn. Christopher (Karen) and sons Cole (Brittany) of Regina, Kaleb, and Joseph; also, lifelong friends, Harriett Ozmun (Mervin) and Max Ditmar. She is also remembered by numerous nephews and nieces, two loving church families and many friends.
Mom’s last years were spent in the care of those at Mont St Joseph’s home. We are so thankful for their loving and respectful care. A special thanks to Father D.J. Vu, the care aides, recreation techs, and nurses who cared for Moms needs and made the days of Covid isolation easier to manage and were very caring to Mom and our family this last week. We know many of them will miss her as well.
