OLGA CHAMBUL
December 13, 1933 – December 26, 2024
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Olga passed away peacefully and quietly in Saskatoon at St. Paul’s Hospital.
In 1953, a sweet girl from Henribourg married a handsome farmer/musician from Honeymoon. Together they built a family, worked the land, tended to animals, and created a simple life. In 1967 they took a huge risk and moved their farming operation to Buckland, where they took a run-down farm yard and turned it into their oasis.
They loved farming and there was no job too big or too small for Olga to tackle. The grain operation was a source of pride, but Olga’s two garden plots were her labour of love. No weed would dare grow in those perfectly straight rows, the berries and vegetables plentiful. She would share the harvest with family and friends and the cold room was well stocked for the winter ahead. Olga worked tirelessly at her flower beds; the vibrant kaleidoscope of pink was always a sight to behold.
Olga was a loving mother, a doting baba (grandmother), and proud great-grandma, a cherished aunt, and a loyal friend. She was farmer, homemaker, gardener, master baker, amazing cook, skilled knitter, and a gracious hostess. Anyone who sat at her table was offered food upon arrival and never left hungry. Everything Olga cooked or baked was delicious and could never be outdone. She hosted beautiful family gatherings that were large and loud, and there was always a place at the table. The food was abundant, the conversation was lively, and the energy was uplifting.
Olga loved to knit and would create the most vibrant knit slippers. Family and friends enjoyed receiving them as gifts. She knitted hundreds of pairs in a variety of colours.
This remarkable woman was a force, quiet at times, other times not. She was strong, driven, humble, and kind. She could be a bit stubborn at times, but with good cause. Olga loved her family dearly and unconditionally, and they in return loved her with all their hearts.
She will be remembered and greatly missed by those that knew her and loved her. Rest well beautiful lady.
Olga is survived by her daughter Cecilia Chambul (Kim Horan); daughter-in-law Lynda (Boris) Chambul; grandchildren Kayla Horan-Dmytruk (Chris Dmytruk), Anna Horan, Emily Horan, Andrew Chambul (Jen Kazarian), and Jessica Chambul; great-grandchildren Tavish Dmytruk and Ronin Chambul; sister Sylvia Zacharki (Bill); and many nieces and nephews. Olga was predeceased by her husband Jerry, father and mother John and Mary Krechowec, sister Ann, brother-in-law Fred Trach, and very dear Boris Chambul.
A very special thank you to the incredible staff at Golden Wellness for the wonderful care they provided and to the hospital staff at St. Paul’s Hospital for kindness and compassion.
