Mary Love

1931-2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Hendrika Love (née Folmer), 94, formerly of Steep Creek, SK (late of Saskatoon, SK). Mary went peacefully on July 22^nd, 2025 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon.

Mary was born on her parent’s farm on July 5^th, 1931 in Steep Creek, SK, east of Prince Albert to Willem and Hendrika Folmer. She grew up on the family farm and was the youngest of four children. In her late teens, Mary worked at the Sanitorium in Prince Albert, SK. There she made many lifelong friends.

As a young woman, Mary married the love of her life, Keith Love. They were married on July 16^th, 1952 and shared 62 loving years together. They shared their love of farming and always worked hand in hand. Together they raised two sons: Dean and Howard. She worked tirelessly to nurture a loving family home. Dean and Howard have many happy memories of family Christmas and New Years turkey feasts with Mom’s brothers and their families. The times we spent together on the farm are treasured by the whole family.

Mary loved gardening and had many beautiful flowers. She had a large and bountiful vegetable garden and fruit orchard. Many relatives and friends enjoyed picking berries with the family on the farm. She also very much enjoyed picking wild blueberries and cranberries, ice fishing, and playing cards with neighbours. Mom and Dad enjoyed a full, rich life together. They had fond memories of their trips to Washington DC, Arizona, and Holland.

When Dad passed in 2014, Mom moved to Preston Park II in Saskatoon where she made many friends and appreciated their company and fellowship. She enjoyed many activities there over the years.

Mary suffered a heart event in June of 2025 that brought her to Royal University Hospital where she continued to decline from heart disease and strokes. Her courage and positive spirit is an inspiration to all who knew her, and she would often say “I’m OK”.

In her passing from life, she leaves to mourn:  Her children: Sons Dean (Heather) Love of Prince George, BC;  and Howard (Joanne) Love of Saskatoon, SK; Grandaughters Darcie (Casey) L’Heureux of Mackenzie, BC and Amanda Love of Mackenzie, BC; Grandsons Robin (Nazanin) Love of Edmonton ,AB and Bretton Love of Saskatoon, SK; Great Grandchildren: Tyson, Jordyn, Caleb, Maddox, and Gavin; as well as many nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents Willem and Hendrika Folmer, brother Dick and sister-in-law Rose Folmer,  brother Albert and sister-in-law Bev Folmer, and sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Alastair MacIsaac.

A Memorial service and graveside celebration of life will be held by the family in Steep Creek next summer.

We will miss her dearly.
