Marlene “Marni” Gail Mullis
1951 – 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene “Marni” Gail Mullis, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on Sunday, May 19, 2024. She passed peacefully while her husband and love of her life Dennis was at her side.
Marlene, or Marni to those who were close to her, was born February 4, 1951 in Prince Albert, SK to parents Margaret and Joseph Jerome. She grew up there and after finishing high school at the Rivier Academy, Marni followed her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse by studying at SIAST in Saskatoon and graduated in 1971. On October 7, 1972 at the age of 21 she married her sweet-heart, Dennis Mullis, in Prince Albert, where they shared over 50 wonderful years together. Marni worked as a nurse at the Holy Family Hospital in the maternity ward and later worked at the Associate Medical Clinic while they started and raised a family together in Prince Albert. She eventually took an early and permanent leave from nursing after being diagnosed with cancer which would become a continued lifelong challenge for her. Her battle with cancer was long and fierce and Marni was a warrior.
Marni enjoyed her lifelong hobbies of painting and drawing, and was one of the founding members of the Kyla Art Group. She loved listening to music and watching movies, and getting together with people for games and trivia brought her great joy. She also loved bowling. She was always thinking of others and she delighted in doing and making things for others. She adored her grandchildren and loved to see them smile. She loved being a part of the Calvary United Church and her community, and selflessly volunteered much of her time over the years to help out for countless functions. She enjoyed telling stories about her nursing days and was known for her sense of humor and for making those she met feel special and loved. In her later years she was able to fulfill another dream – taking the time to travel to places she had always wanted to see like Paris, Panama, and Mexico. She was a thoughtful, caring and special lady and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Marni is survived by her loving family: her husband Dennis; daughter Celeste Smith (Sean) and grandchildren Zev and Eli; son Clayton Mullis (Bobbie) and grandchildren Finlay and Phoebe; her brothers Skip Jerome (Lois) and Gord Jerome (Theresa); brother-in-law Doug Graham; nieces and nephews Jodi, Wade, Chelle, and Stuart; and many beloved friends and extended family.
She was predeceased by her beloved mother Margaret “Marge” and her father Joseph “Joe” Jerome; her sister Patricia “Pat” Graham; and her parents-in-law Frank and Josephine “Jo” Mullis.
A Celebration of Marni’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Calvary United Church, 114 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating.
