Lillian was born to Helmer and Magnhild Bastness and lived her early years in the Hagen area. She attended Bastness School, several miles from the family farm. Upon completing her High School at LCBI in Outlook, SK Mom went on to attend Business College in Prince Albert, and later to work as a Dental Assistant in Prince Albert.
She married Roy Borsheim, the love of her life, on May 24, 1952 and moved to the Borsheim farm North of Birch Hills. Three children joined their family: Heather, Joann, and Wesley. Lillian tended a large vegetable garden. She canned fruit, made jams and jellies, pickles and relish. She was an amazing bread baker and a fabulous cook.
Mom had a special giftedness for caring for flowers, with her peach geranium taking center stage on her back deck. She paid special attention to the birds in her yard, noting new nests along with an egg count, she kept the hummingbird feeder and bird baths full, so her feathered friends would be comfortable, and eagerly watched for the return of the Blue Jays.
Mom was a voracious reader and loved the book sales each year at the South Hill Mall. Mom spent hours in her office updating genealogy, writing poems and letters, and logging detailed weather notes.
Mom had a deep and enduring faith in Jesus Christ and we are confident that she is safely in the arms of Jesus.
The family would like to send special thanks to Pat Chuey and the staff at Good Shepherd Villa for caring for our Mom so faithfully and with such gentleness and kindness. In her final days the residents and staff alike regularly inquired about our Mom, missing her at the table and offering to pray for her. Thanks to Dr. Dale Ardell for his years of excellent medical care and to Dr. Alana Surkan who gave us guidance as Mom slipped into palliative care.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at Lake Park Baptist Church (Highway #3 North of Birch Hills) on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live streamed on the Lake Park Baptist Church you tube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@lakeparkbaptistchurchsaska5280/streams
