Laura May Fremont (née Wilson)
October 21, 1927 – July 26, 2022
Laura was born to Alfred and Laura Wilson on October 21, 1927 in Prince Albert, Sask. She was the second oldest of six children. Laura attended Red Wing School and lived in Red Wing district all her life, until moving to Prince Albert, SK in retirement. Laura married André Fremont on June 12, 1947. Laura and André ran the family dairy farm with André’s brother Henry. They had six children: Donna (Greg Flanagan) Fremont of Victoria; Dwayne (Carolyn) Fremont of Red Wing; Charlotte (Leslie Petrie) Fremont of Calgary; Lloyd (Melody) Fremont of Paddockwood; Mervin (Marilyn) Fremont of Red Wing; Gwen Fremont of Prince Albert. She had 19 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. Laura is survived by her sister Elsie Kalyn of Prince Albert, SK. She was pre-deceased by her husband, André; her brothers: Jim Wilson of Cut Knife, Charlie Wilson of MacDowall; her sisters: Bertha Logodin of Whitestar, and Ellen Denysiuk of Nipawin.
Laura was an active member of her community. She spent 12 years driving school bus for Red Wing School, as well as acting as director on the single parent’s association, and secretary of the Red Wing School Board while her children attended. She was a lifetime member of the P.A. exhibition where the family showed cattle, and all the kids were 4H club members. She was an active member of the Red Wing Community Club for 30 years, where she acted as secretary and president, as well as helping build the new hall, and catered hundreds of weddings and bowling banquets. She volunteered with the Rawlinson Center and the Saskatchewan Country Music Association. She was the Secretary and Treasurer of Fairview Ladies Golf Course where she was a member since 1993, when she took up golfing in retirement. She was the treasurer and an active member of the Chester Court Apartments where she lived for the past 18 years.
Laura loved golfing, bowling, dancing, and playing cards with friends and family. She bowled four times a week at Minto Bowl on many teams, for over fifty years, and had coffee every morning at Smitty’s with friends for the past forty years. She loved golfing with family and kept her game up during the winter by golfing virtually. Laura loved flowers, she tended the gardens at her apartment, as well as always making sure family member’s gardens were getting enough water. Laura loved her family and was a constant presence at every birthday and wedding celebration.
Laura passed away on July 26th, 2022 surrounded by family, after suffering a stroke. She was 94 years old.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will be at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
