Jean Pawlyshyn
January 14, 1929 – January 13, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Jean Pawlyshyn. Jean passed away on January 13, 2024, one day before her 95th birthday.
Jean was born to Rose and Onufry Hryhor on January 14, 1929. She was the baby of the family with 7 siblings. Raised on the farm, she had to work as hard as her brothers and sisters. She often told the story of her babysitting relatives when she was 6 years old.
When Jean’s husband Adolph was discharged from the Army, they married on October 20, 1946, and resided with Adolph’s parents on the farm. Besides her large gardens and flower gardens, she milked cows, did farm chores, pitched bales, and made large meals for the threshing crew. As if farm work was not enough, Mom decided to work in the kitchen when the P.A. Pulp Mill opened. She then worked as a seamstress at Eaton’s. She also worked at a bakery in the South Hill Mall. After they moved into Prince Albert, she worked at the Holy Family Hospital, first in the Dietary Department and then in Housekeeping in the O.R.
When she retired, Dad and Mom took a few trips in Canada and the United States. Jean loved to cross-stitch and sew (especially for all her dolls). She kept her family supplied with perogies and other baking as she loved being in the kitchen. A week before her passing she was still making cabbage rolls, perogies, and Christmas Kolach. Our family was grateful she was able to be in her home caring for herself until her passing.
Jean was a member of the Orthodox Church for more than 70 years. She enjoyed working at the suppers, Bingo’s, and fundraising, making cabbage rolls and perogies. She still helped at the Perogy Bees in November 2023.
Jean is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sylvia Kosowan and her son, Robert (Janice) Pawlyshyn; her grandchildren Jason, Tyler (Jennifer), and Jaret Kosowan, Ronnie (Treena) and Sara Pawlyshyn, Jennifer, Katie and Riley Gruber, Leanne and Tim Stade; many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents Rose and Onufry Hryhor, her in-laws Andrew and Domka Pawlyshyn, her husband Adolph (2010), her son-in-law Adam (2019), as well as all her sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 684 3rd Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK, with The Very Reverend Father Michal Lomaszkiewicz officiating.
