Jean Cook

March 25, 1922~ October 29, 2022

The family of B. Jean Cook (nee: Forrest) are fortunate and lucky to have had our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt who celebrated her 100^th birthday on March 25^th.

A husband, three children, 9 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, in- laws, numerous nephews and nieces, cousins all had a special place in her heart.

Mom’s 100^th birthday celebration was on May 14^th, all the greetings she received had the same theme of how kind, generous, caring and loving she was. God gave mom these gifts. She fed and provided a bed not only to her siblings, but to many nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. She had the ability to make a delicious meal with dessert and no one should have left hungry.

On October 29^th mom left this world to be in the arms of her Lord.

Mom came into this world on a bitterly cold day on March 25, 1922, born on a farm in Mankota, Sk. With her mother, Agnus (nee: Bell) and older sister left at home, her father, James Forrest, took his horse and buggy many miles to fetch first the midwife then the doctor. As a result of the cold bitter day, our grandfather had to be treated for hyperthermia.

When the Dirty Thirties hit and the family of six kids, were packed up in the old Model T for the very long trip to Prince Albert. The cattle and belongings were put on the train to Prince Albert, then to a rented small, dirt floor, shack at Cloverdale, soon after moved to Spruce Home.

The family soon settled in, attended a one room school which one of our aunt’s had to light the wood stove before school started, welcomed the seventh child, was involved in the community & Prince Albert & spent many weekends at the Cloverdale hall with the neighbors.

Mom met our Dad, Raymond G Cook, and were married on a beautiful Sunday, June 9, 1940. Dad soon enlisted in the army, returning in 1945 when the war ended.

It was a stressful time for everyone, but during that time Mom worked at the PA Laundry, took a machinist course making bullets and other tools. No matter how busy Mom was, she took time during the week to write letters to our father, our uncle who were overseas and to numerous relatives down south, in Scotland and Australia. She even stayed in touch with friends in Mankota.

Mom kept in touch with everyone and kept all of us connected. Mom was also gifted with an incredible memory. Not only could she recite the alphabet backwards, she never forgot a person’s name and how they related to the family. She kept herself well informed by reading the paper, a magazine, even flyers from cover to cover. With a farm magazine she would compare the farm equipment of today to what her father had to use. In Mom’s 100 years she saw so many changes.

In 1965 Mom, along with our father and brother, owned and operated the Quarter Moon restaurant. With Mom’s talent for cooking the Quarter Moon soon became the place to go. It was the high school hangout and she feed some very hungry construction workers.

Family was very important. When grandchildren started to arrive, Mom was in her heaven. Her heart grew bigger. There was nothing more pleasing to her than to attend their birthday parties, school concerts, sports events. She was so proud of each of them and bragged about their accomplishments.

You wouldn’t think Mom would have any more room in her heart, but she did, for seventeen great-grandchildren. Each one being so special to her mentioning how fast they are growing. Once again she went to numerous birthday parties, concerts and activities. With each birthday coming up Mom had to confirm they were getting their gift and birthday card that most of the time she signed with “Love Always”

For 100 years Mom was in good health. Throughout her life she was adamant about taking vitamins of one kind or another. It was a good thing for Nutters, especially through covid. The last ten years, the only thing she complained about to Dr. Halyk was her arthritic fingers and stomach. Unfortunately at the end of June, her stomach problem got the best of her. Right to the end, mom fought to get better, but her 100 year old body couldn’t fight back strong enough and she took her last breath on October 29^th.

Mom had a strong faith knowing her Lord takes care of her. One day mom said: “There is lots I want, but nothing I need” which would be from Luke 12: 30,31: “Your heavenly Father knows your needs. He will always give you all you need from day to day.”

Mom leaves her legacy of her kindness, caring and unconditional love. She prayed every night for “the children”. From a bookmark in her bible, Mom says her last prayer:

I Said a Prayer for You Today

I said a prayer for you today

And know God must have heard-

I felt the answer in my heart

Although He spoke no word.

I didn’t ask for wealth or fame.

I know you wouldn’t mind.

I asked Him to send treasures

Of a far more lasting kind.

I asked that he’d be near you

At the start of each new day.

To grant you health and blessings

And friends to share your way.

I asked for happiness for you

In all things great and small.

But it was for His loving care

I prayed the most of all.

At 100 years Mom had great sadness with the passing of her husband, Raymond G Cook, son Raymond J, son-in-law Tom Cathcart, granddaughter Krista Cathcart, Mom’s parents, siblings & in laws

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 1351 28 Street East, Prince Albert, SK.  Interment will be held at the South Hill Cemetery.  Services will be live streamed.
