OBITUARY

 ISABEL ANNA LAHAYE (nee Forrest)

August 18, 1920 – September 10, 2020

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Isabel Anna LaHaye on September 10, 2020 at Mont St. Joseph Home, Prince Albert, SK at the age of 100.

Mom was the eldest of seven children born to James and Nettie Forrest at Mankota, SK.

Mom met Claude LaHaye at a dance at the Cloverdale Hall. The romance was on and in April 1940 they were married at the White Star Church. They were married for 71 years and through this union five children were born.

In 1945 they bought their first quarter section at White Star and farmed there until 1975 at which time they moved to Prince Albert. After retiring, Dad and Mom spent many hours at Anglin Lake during the summers and travelled south to Arizona for 14 winters where they made life long friends.

Mom became a resident at Mont St. Joseph Home in March 2012, a place where she received the love of another precious family.

Mom took pride in her appearance, had beautiful thick hair that was always curled into very tight locks.  Having her hair in place, the way she looked, and her independence was so important to her right to the very end.

Her childhood love was horses and this was evident as her home was adorned with pictures and statues of them. When the Dairy Pool (where Dad worked) replaced the horse drawn milk wagons with motorized delivery vehicles Mom rode Dad’s horse King from Prince Albert to the farm at White Star to live out his final days. On her 80^th birthday she insisted on riding a horse, and that she did at the stables in Waskesiu.

While working hard to help Dad and with the task of raising a family of five, she still found time to get her St. Johns Ambulance Course certificate in 1961. She worked many hours bed side nursing patients at the local hospitals and held the hands of families during the final hours of their loved one’s passing. She just knew what to do and cared for each patient as though they were family. She was also an active member of the CWL for 40 plus years.

Her life was that of a hard worker and a caregiver. She managed the home, milked cows, sold cream and eggs for income and was able to work at various places such as Baker’s Cabins during the summer in Waskesiu, serving banquets for Walter’s Dine & Dance (Suburban Inn), North Park Centre and Reitmans ladies store. In her younger years she worked for farm families in the Cloverdale and Honeymoon Districts. Because of her, Dad was able to remain at home for a number years prior to his going into a care home.

She took in foster children in-crisis. They were loved, fed and kept safe until a permanent home was found. She became “Mom” to a young lad, named Billy   after he was taken in by her and Dad when the St. Patrick’s Orphanage burned down.

Mom baby sat all her grand kids and took in her own kids when in need of a place to live. You could just move back home with all your kids, and mom would see that you were fed and loved never looking back on how hard it was to turn a two- person household into a group of eight to ten. She was at Dad’s side to partner with him helping when someone was ill, or had lost a loved one, or just needed to build a cabin or garage.

She was always ready for fun and loved to joke and dress up silly as a clown, just as long as she made people laugh, that was her reward. She was the one that would encourage you to sing, play the guitar, get up and perform and not be afraid to show you talents. Family and family gatherings were cherished.

Mom celebrated her 100^th birthday on August 18, 2020 at Mont St. Joseph Home  on the patio and a window visit on August 22^nd.  What she loved the most was seeing her family together at these times. The family is ever so grateful for having the love of this wonderful lady for so many years.

fourteen (14) grandchildren;

twenty-five (25) great grandchildren;

eleven (11) great-great grandchildren;

as well she is blessed with some very special grandkids and great-grandkids gained from blended families.

as well as numerous nieces and nephews; cousins and cousins-in-law.

She was predeceased by her;

Special thank you to the Mont St. Joseph’s family. We are proud to say you kept our Mom safe during such a crisis time in our world. Mom felt very loved by you.
