1930 – 2026
The family of Helen Pope is saddened to announce her passing on May 19, 2026 in Prince Albert, SK.
Helen was born on her parent’s farm near Altona, Manitoba to Heinrich and Margaretha Dyck.
After finishing nursing school, she moved to Shamattawa where she began nursing in conjunction with Northern Canada Evangelical Mission and Indian Affairs.
After meeting fellow missionary Joe Pope at a mission conference, they were married in 1959. They continued in mission work in various communities until they retired in Prince Albert Saskatchewan.
Helen passed away on the morning of May 19th at Victoria Hospital.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Joe January 2016. Also, her brother Willie, Tina (sister) and Pete Kroeker, Anne (sister) and Peter George Funk, and brothers-in-laws Ernie Martens and Henry Arendt. Her daughter-in-law Grace also preceded her.
Helen is survived by her sisters Martha and Mary, as well as her children Walter (Aileen) Pope, Wanda (Brent) Wahlstrom and Wayne (Pam) Pope and ”adopted son” Marlz Reimer. Helen had 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The Funeral Service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the Community Bible Church, 950 6th Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK. Interment followed in the Whitestar Cemetery.
