Gaye Diane Spademan (nee Silver)
February 2, 1947 – September 16, 2012
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we mourn the sudden passing of our loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Gaye was born in Prince Albert, SK to Isobel and Elmer Silver. She grew up on the farm east of Prince Albert with two sisters and two brothers, with many nearby cousins and friends. After high school she studied to become a Registered Nurse at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert and worked in Melfort, Kinistino, Birch Hills, Yorkton and Prince Albert. She loved nursing and never considered it “work”. She retired from nursing earlier in 2012. She met Art and they were married in 1968 and together they raised four children, moving with Art’s job with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool to places like Silver Park south of Melfort and Bredenbury, near Yorkton. In 1974 they moved to Kinistino and spent 19 years there before moving back “home” to Prince Albert in 1993. All of her children also ended up in and around Prince Albert and she enjoyed the frequent planned and impromptu get-togethers. She loved spending time in her yard and spent hours making sure that every corner had something of her special touch. She worked tirelessly in her garden and we could always count on unlimited bounty from it. One of her favorite hobbies was crochet which she turned into a venture creating “HappyHats by Gaye.” The tags on her work read “Made especially for you by Gaye” and she absolutely meant it, pouring her heart into each piece of work. Gaye and Art hosted a family reunion for their massive extended families in 2010 which was so big it took two days; one for the Spademan’s and one for the Silver’s. You could never catch her doing anything she did not enjoy, whether it be nursing, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren or simply having a coffee on the deck. Gaye leaves to mourn Art, her husband of 44 years; their children Brent (Twyla Doerksen), Kelly (Jami), Robert and Elaine (Ian) Jacques; her grandchildren Nicole Doerksen (Taylor Cowley), Joshua Doerksen, Nachelle, Cameron and Shannan Spademan, Dylan and Braileigh Jacques; her mother Isobel Silver; her brother-in-law Gottfried Gentek; her sister Judy (Ernie) Krip; her brothers Bill Silver and Robert (Donna) Silver and their families; Art’s sisters Shirley Neilsen, Rose (Jim) MacDonald, Heather (Bob) Bunton, Betty (Richard) McCarthy, Ethel (Donald) MacLeod and Bertha Given and Art’s brothers Bob (Marie), Joseph (Penny) and Sandy (Marguerite) and their families. Gaye was predeceased by her father, Elmer Silver; her sister Suzanne Gentek and her sister-in-law Yvonne Silver. You are all invited to join us for a Celebration of Gaye’s life at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 589 – 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Victoria Hospital Foundation c/o new Pineview Terrace Fund, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4.
