Eva Violet Brewster (nee Kelly)
December 21, 1932 – December 17, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the children of Eva Violet Brewster announce her peaceful passing on December 17, 2025 at the young age of 92 years, 11 months and 17 days at the Birchview Nursing Home in Birch Hills, SK.
Eva was born on December 21, 1932 to the parents of Jack and Mary Kelly. Eva was raised on the family farm in the Donnybrook District, SK. One can only imagine the challenges of farm life in 1932 (the Dirty Thirties). These challenges would integrate the strength and work ethic shaping the lady she would become throughout her life.
On October 27, 1950, Eva married Mel Brewster and together they raised five sons and one daughter in Prince Albert, SK. Eva attended secretarial school in Prince Albert, SK and had a varied career in the secretarial field commencing with the Prince Albert Dairy Pool. She then moved on to the Prince Albert Public School Board and Prince Albert Technical High School where she was head secretary and a powerhouse in opening the new Prince Albert Technical High School in 1964. Eva then moved her skills to Riverside Collegiate, Community College, Carlton Comprehensive High School, Department of Education and finally ended her career with the Catholic school system at St. Mary High School where she retired in 1993. Eva took pride and excelled in every career move. Her work was always appreciated, and she was recognized for being professional and efficient.
As Mom’s parents aged, she took on the role of their caregiver. Years later, Mom took on the role once again as caregiver to her husband, Mel Brewster. Mom’s dedication and compassion to those roles was unwavering. Never once did Mom complain – it was a big part of her DNA.
Mom enjoyed being involved in the ACW at the St. David’s Anglican Church as well as bowling, curling, the odd trip to Las Vegas and local casino. After retirement Eva continued to work. She worked part-time as a greeter at the original Walmart at the South Hill Mall location. Retirement also afforded Eva more time to concentrate on her Rose Marie skin care sales. These two side adventures gave Eva the luxury of being around and talking to people. Speaking of talking, she always kept in touch with family and friends. With a sincere and deep concern for all around her. The phone was a lifeline. Connecting with family and friends was extremely important throughout her life. Eva had an extraordinary memory for people, places and situations. There are many examples of history lessons we heard from Mom about people, places and situations. She spoke of the many students that had crossed paths with her throughout her secretarial career. She saw them as young students and was blessed to meet many of them again in their adult years to hear of their success. What a gift.
As a family it is humbling to know our mom was well respected. People Mom encountered in her journey of life often shared similar comments about her. Comments, such as “kindness”, “classy lady” and she “doesn’t age”.
Through life’s journey and the many ups and downs, Eva’s character was built. Eva did not let the grass grow under her feet. So strong. So brilliant. Eva Called a spade a spade and whatever challenge she encountered, she would have a solution to the problem no matter what it took to get it done. Being Irish had nothing to do with it (LOL).
Rest in Peace Mom. We love you as you loved all of us unconditionally.
A life well led.
Our Mother will be missed.
Until we meet again according to God’s grace.
