Eleanor Soron
1929 – 2024
It is with a heavy heart that the family of Eleanor Soron announces her passing on April 25, 2024 at the age of 95.
Eleanor was born February 2, 1929 in the Hagen District. She was the second oldest of 10 children. Eleanor grew up working hard on the farm and helped her mother out with her younger siblings along with chores of baking, cooking and sewing. She attended the Superior School completing her grade 9 and then went to work for the Opseth farm. Later she started a job as a nursing aide working at the Prince Albert Sanatorium and it was there she met her husband Steve who worked as an orderly. They started their married life in Krydor at his family farm and then later moved to Prince Albert. Together they had 6 children. Eleanor worked hard raising her family at home and then later took jobs as a paper packer for the Daily Herald and then worked in the laundry department for the Victoria Hospital. Mom thoroughly enjoyed her employment and took great pride in her work. Her earnings provided her with independence and finally in her 50s she acquired her driver’s license and her own vehicle.
She was famous for her homemade buns, pies, lefsa, perogies, cabbage rolls, jams and several types of pickles. Family and guests were always treated to a feast at every visit and a bag of treats to take home. She was also a musician and could often be found singing and tapping her toes while she played her guitar, modest as they come thinking her talent was less then desirable. But everyone knew she was amazing. She had many talents and liked to be busy. She crocheted blankets for all her children and grandchildren, sewed beautiful outfits, cut and styled hair, could paint and draw, and had a large garden. Growing up it felt like Mom could do it all and she did.
She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with people always inviting and welcoming with that warm smile. She had a way of making everyone feel special never forgetting a birthday.
She is survived by: her son Alvin (Joyce) and their children Ashley (Andrew) and great grandchild Allie, Chris (Amber), Maddox, Landon; her daughter Dianne (Gib) Gervais and their children Ryan, Lindsay (Travis) and great grandchild Hayden, Melissa (Brett) and great grandchild Sutton; her son Donald and his son Eric (Amanda) and great grandchild Keegan; her daughter Sandra (Mike) Schapansky and her children Devan (Hilary), and Danielle; and her daughter Lana (Carey) Pillar and their children Josh and Mckenna.
Eleanor will also be sadly missed by her siblings Eileen Jacobson, Palmer (Francis) Jacobson, Mervin Jacobson, Joyce McClure, Lila (Keith) McRae, Leslie Jacobson, and Shirley Jacobson. As well as countless nephews, nieces and friends.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Steve, her son David, her sisters Vera Newhouse and Norma Leland, brother-in-law Carl McClure, sister-in-law Violet Jacobson, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Paul and Mary Soron, and her parents Melvin and Pearl Jacobson.
We would like to give special thanks to the Birchview Special Care Home staff in Birch Hills for the excellent care and love you provided to her over the past 4 years. Being back in that area for her was like returning home.
