Diane Bazowski
Feb 19, 1950 – Feb 1, 2022
On February 1st, 2022, Diane passed away at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, while surrounded by the warm embrace of her loving husband and family.
Diane was born in Prince Albert and raised on the Hawryluk family farm south of Prince Albert. She was the second of five children born to parents Paul and Olga Hawryluk.
After graduating from Composite High School in Prince Albert she attended the U of S and later graduated with her B.Ed. For 30 years Diane taught in the Prince Albert Catholic School Division, primarily as an elementary school educator. Diane enjoyed a special connection with her students and shared with them, her enthusiasm for education and learning. She had a reputation for being a kind, compassionate and organized teacher who took great pride in the development and accomplishments of her many students. She fostered many strong friendships with her fellow teachers over the years- and these friendships carried on well after Diane retired in 2002.
Diane had a love of life and a strong love for her family and for her many nieces and nephews: Des, Dustin, Tim, Lisa, Larisa, Justin, Ashley and Jordan. “Auntie Diane” always treated her nieces and nephews like gold and like one of her own. She supported them at countless hockey and ball games and at many dance competitions and she never forgot a birthday or special occasion.
In 1997, Diane married her soulmate and best friend, Walter Bazowski. For the next 24 years, Wally and Diane unconditionally supported, cared for and loved one another. They never travelled apart and were always together. They loved to travel and enjoyed trips throughout the Prairies, the US, and winter getaways to Cuba and the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed listening to music from the 1960’s, watching movies and their favourite TV shows, and regular trips to Tim Hortons.
Diane was extraordinarily proud of her Ukrainian heritage, culture and parish, St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. She enjoyed supporting the Church by teaching First Communion, cooking at fall suppers, working bingos and was a proud member of Veselka. She served on the organizations executive and enjoyed all initiatives in support of Veselka, including working at its renowned food booth at the Prince Albert Exhibition.
Diane was a master chef that specialized in Ukrainian dishes. She made a legendary borscht that was always enjoyed by her friends and family. Many of her recipes have been passed along to her family and will be prepared in her honour, in the years to come. She was known for hosting many large meals and holidays gatherings with her siblings and their families. Growing up and throughout her life Diane had a very close friendship with her cousin Pat Holuk, and together they spent a lot of time visiting, playing cards, golfing, bowling and travelling.
Thank you to Dr. Brea Davis who has supported and guided us throughout this year.
