Bonnie Diane Lucas
September 28, 1948~ December 5, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Bonnie Diane Lucas (nee Trueman) announces her passing at the age of 73 on Sunday December 5th, 2021 at home on her acreage with her loving family by her side.
Bonnie was born in Prince Albert Saskatchewan September 28th, 1948 to Peggy and George Trueman, the second child of eight. In February of 1967 Bonnie met the love of her life Bruce Lucas while working at Angleron mine in La Ronge and the two were married March 10th 1967. They spent 52 years together during which time they raised a son Trevor and a daughter Peggy.
Bonnie was a businesswoman co-owning and operating a local yardage store with Bruce. After selling the store, Bonnie decided that she was going to follow her dream of obtaining her grade 12 diploma. In 1984 she enrolled herself back in grade 11 at Carlton High School and graduated in 1985 with her grade 12 diploma. Going back to high school was the catalyst for a lifelong love of learning, and precursor to obtaining a bachelor of Education and then further yet a master’s degree. After graduating with her education degree, she ran the STAR program for years followed by the opportunity to work as vice principal at Queen Mary School and eventually finishing her teaching career at Berezowsky School as principal retiring in 2014. Bonnie had a love for learning and was determined to have every young mind that she came in contact with have the opportunity to see how valuable education can be. Bruce and the kids often joked that she was never going to stop going to school and while preparing for her retirement she went back to the University of Saskatchewan and took master gardening classes. Anyone that was ever blessed to have seen her acreage in full bloom knew that she truly was a master class gardener.
