Anne Skoronski-Cantin
On February 12, 2025 in Penticton, BC the long and happy life of Anne Skoronski-Cantin came to a peaceful end.
Anne was born in Yorkton, SK to Fred and Mary Billy, the first of nine children. She was raised in the Canora area where she later met and married a young local teacher, Andrew Skoronski. The young couple with two children later moved north to the Flin Flon / Creighton area where they established and jointly operated Creighton Hardware until their retirement. One more move brought them to Prince Albert to enjoy a new life on their acreage/hobby farm which our family referred to as “Green Acres”.
Anne’s love of curling and golfing combined well with her passion for music and entertaining. She was often the center of attention at bonspiels, golf tournaments, birthdays, anniversaries, and family gatherings entertaining everyone and encouraging all to join in for a good singalong. Some of us will remember the “Curling Stones”. Anne was also a member of the well known “Club Five” group for over 20 years.
A strong believer in community, Anne was an active participant in several local clubs and organizations. It was for her involvement that she was nominated with Jack Cennon to be Mr. and Mrs. Winter Festival 1997, a personal highlight.
In later life Anne married Wilf Cantin, and they enjoyed travelling by motorhome to warmer destinations, eventually settling in Penticton, BC. There she spent hours crafting lovely blankets with Swedish Embroidery, gifting them to family and friends. Anyone who wished to learn, she would teach.
Anne will be remembered by family and friends for her energy, her resilience, her fun-loving nature, and her singing voice.
Anne was predeceased by her parents, her husband Andrew, son Steven, husband Wilf, son-in-law Tom Heidt, grandson-in-law Jack Hunter (Heather Paull), as well as sisters Marge Joseph and Amy Dayment, and brothers Jack, Fred, and William Billy.
Anne is survived by her daughters Peggy Paull (William), Jan Heidt (David), and Karen Skoronski; her grandchildren Heather, Holly (Nathan), Tannis (Greg), Ginger (Louis), and Chana; step grandchildren Ray, Janice, Christine, and Karen; great grandchildren Mia and Sola; sisters Elsie Clarke and Pearl Giles; and brother Richard Billy (Marg).
The family is very grateful to the staff at Haven Hill Retirement Centre for the excellent care Mom received the past 12 years.
A private family ceremony will take place in Prince Albert at a later date.
