BOYCHUK – Mrs. Anna Boychuk of Hafford, Saskatchewan, and formerly of Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 in the Hafford Special Care Home. Anna is survived by her grandchildren, Roman (Ulyana) Nemish and Svitlana (Yuriy) Kuzyk; great grandchildren, Anthony Nemish, Arthur Nemish, Sofia Nemish, Andriy Kuzyk, Roman Kuzyk, and Taras Kuzyk; and special friends Pat and Andy Ciona. She was predeceased by her daughter, Orysia Nemish; husband, Petro Boychuk; and her parents Sam and Malanka Labach. Anna Boychuk was born in Western Ukraine in 1924. In 1928 her father Sam Labach immigrated to Canada to become a farmer. After working few years in Toronto at a steel factory, Sam purchased farmland and settled close to Blaine Lake, SK. Before he was able to bring his wife and daughter Anna to Canada, the 2nd World War erupted in Europe and no one was able to leave Ukraine. Anna got married at the end of the war and Anna’s mother died shortly after the war. It was not until 1974 that Anna came to Canada to help her father work on the farm and later to take care of her aging father. Since being a small child, Anna really enjoyed to work on the land both in the Ukraine and later in Canada. She was exceptionally happy to work on the farm in Canada with her father. In her early 50’s she learned to drive a tractor and a truck, while seeding and harvesting. In early 1980 she moved to Blaine Lake. Anna’s interests and hobbies were gardening during spring and summer, and Ukrainian embroidery during the long and cold Canadian winters. She also enjoyed Ukrainian celebrations, cooking, as well as traveling to the Ukraine and Alberta to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in the St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Krydor with the Very Reverend Taras Udod officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Krydor.
