William Calvin McLachlan “Cal”
1936 – 2024
William Calvin McLachlan “Cal” was born on March 22, 1936 at the Yorkton Hospital. He grew up on the family farm 7 miles from Yorkton and attended Raiman School. He graduated from Yorkton Collegiate in 1954 and went to work at Southey as a bank teller.
In 1956 he started working for SaskPower in Regina and became an Electrical Engineering Technologist. He then moved to Prince Albert with SaskPower and then to La Ronge in 1972. He worked as manager of North Sask Electric (a subsidiary of SaskPower).
Cal loved boating, fishing, camping, canoeing, hunting, and traveling. He was also very involved with the Elks Club.
He married Linda Lee in 1974 and they were married for 49 years. After his retirement in 1992, Cal and Linda spent 22 winters in Mesa, AZ and enjoyed their southern community. Cal spent most of his time at the VDO woodshop doing intarsia that were sold or given away to family and friends.
In 2014 Cal and Linda moved back to Wadin Bay where he spent most of his time in his woodshop or looking after his lawn. In 2018 they bought a condo in Prince Albert when he began to struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He moved to Good Shepherd assisted living in July of 2022.
Cal passed away on January 17, 2024. He was 87 years old.
Cal will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda; his son, Stephen (Stella Sanderson); his daughter-in-law, Jem; his special friends, Michelle and Rick Thompson; his grandsons Cliff, Danny, and Calvin; as well as his great grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
Cal was predeceased by his parents, Estelle and Daniel; his brother, Terry; and his son, Peter.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK.
