Tony Anthony Rudnicki
September 6, 1932 ~ August 8, 2024
With unspeakable sadness, we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Tony Rudnicki, on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the age of 91 years old.
Tony was born on September 6, 1932 in Smeaton, SK, the third child and first son to Joseph and Mary Rudnicki. He was hard working, active, athletic, and known for always being funny, characteristics that continued throughout all his life. He was close to his parents and was protective of those he loved, especially his younger sister Joyce. He grew up working hard on the family farm alongside his father.
Later he met the love of his life Elsie and after two years of courtship they were married on November 1, 1953 at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church. In 1956 they moved to what is now the home quarter in Smeaton where they raised their six children and lived until 2016 when they moved to Prince Albert.
Tony was a farmer at heart. He loved his cattle and the farm and everything that came along with it and when he was away from the farm he couldn’t wait to get back home to it. He loved making sheaves, working on the threshing crew, and logging in the wintertime with the horses and his boys. He shared this love with every generation of the family whether it was taking the kids along in the tractor, waking up early to check on the cattle during calving season, growing and maintaining the garden and keeping the yard perfectly mowed which he was able to continue into this summer.
As much as he loved the farm, he and Elsie enjoyed going on trips which included Hawaii, Las Vegas, Deadwood, Devil’s Lake, and numerous bus tours over the years.
Tony was social and loved being a part of the community and was welcoming to all. In his younger years he enjoyed both playing and coaching hockey and baseball, curling, and driving school bus. He loved a reason to celebrate and was often the last one on the dance floor at weddings. In the more recent years since Elsie’s passing, he immersed himself in the community at Points West where he was the winner for best outfit at Hawaiian night, was the referee at shuffleboard (which could get wild at times), and organized hockey and football drafts yearly.
In the later years of their life together Tony took beautiful care of Elsie and navigating life without her was something he struggled with. We take comfort in knowing they are at peace and together again.
Tony leaves to mourn his children, Marlene, Wayne (Loretta), Joe (Lorna), Lori, Kelly (Diana), and Trudy; grandchildren, Stacy, Derry, Nicole, Kris, Kyle, Kassidy, Gerralee, Jessce, Teyla, Tia, Alyssa, and Aimee; great grandchildren, Mila, Kayden, Brekyn, Lexy, Madison, Blair, Jack, Remi, Annika, Loewyn, Blakely, Jesco, Octavia, Roisin, Fionn, and Taron; sister, Joyce; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Tony was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Elsie Rudnicki; parents, Joseph and Mary Rudnicki; brother, Mike; sisters, Louise and Frances; and son-in-law, Jim Reynolds.
Special thank you to Dr. Surkan for his care over the years and to his extended family at Points West.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Tony will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Elsie at a private family gathering.
