Stuart Dodwell

1937 – 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of Wilfred “Stuart” Dodwell, age 88, announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, with his loving family by his side.

Stuart was born on September 23, 1937, in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, where he was raised on the family farm. From a young age, he developed a strong work ethic and independent spirit. At just 14 years old, Stuart left home and began working as a farm hand before going on to a long career as a truck driver. He spent many years on the road, a profession he enjoyed until his retirement.

Stuart will be fondly remembered for his love of old-time music which reflected his appreciation for simpler times. He had a unique sense of humour that brought smiles to those around him and found great joy in tending to his yard and watching the birds that visited. Gifted with a natural talent for building and repairing almost anything, Stuart was the person his family could always count on when something needed fixing.  Above all else, Stuart’s greatest pride and happiness came from his family, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Sylvia May Dodwell (née Freeman); his son Russell (Wendy) Dodwell of Melfort, Saskatchewan; his granddaughters Dawn-Marie (Carlos) Diab of Sherwood Park, Alberta, and their children Aleena and Zak, and Kerby (Dan) Toews of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and their children Sydney and Wyatt. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law Fred (Carole) Freeman of Calgary, Alberta, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Stuart was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Mary Dodwell; his sisters, Ivy Dodwell, Edna McLeod, and Jessie (Verne) Richmond; his brother, Leslie (Kathleen) Dodwell; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James “Jim” and Evelyn Freeman.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Though Stuart is no longer with us, he will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him. His legacy of hard work, resilience, laughter and devotion to his family will live on in our memories.  He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
