Rodney “Rod” Wirsta

 January 27, 1950 ~ October 30, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Rodney Wirsta, beloved husband to Barbara, announce his passing on October 30, 2022 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK.

Rodney James Wirsta was born January 27, 1950 and passed away suddenly October 30, 2022.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara;  children Cindy (Arnie), Kim (Andy), Angela (Shaun), Daniel (Mandy), Violet (Morgan), and Naomi (Jason); grandchildren Brianna (Ethan), Jordan (Brandon), Carter, Courtney (Brayden), Cody, Felix, Atoli, Haelynn, Marlii; great grandson Emmett; sister Melissa (Tony);  and along with Barb’s siblings: Judy and Johnny (Amanda, Katelyn, Jonathan and Jaimie), Cathy (Barrett and Chantal, Dominique, Liam, Charlie and Thomas, Ashley, Nikolai and Sebastian), Russ and Joanne (Stephanie & Kayley).

Rodney had a rough childhood and grew up in various places in rural Alberta and Calgary, later moved to Winnipeg and eventually by the grace of God and The Salvation Army landed in Prince Albert to open The Bridge Halfway House. He met his wife, Barbara, on June 22, 1989 at Camp Tapawingo. They fell in love that summer when he volunteered to play Santa Claus for a senior citizen group at the camp after a very short and wet canoe ride. They married a year later and began building their legacy. Time quickly passed and their family grew by the grace of God. They endured loss, celebrated joys and Rodney’s deep love of his wife and children was evident to all who knew him. He also loved to cook, and his food created many opportunities for fellowship. The greatest compliment to Rodney was seeing people return for seconds (and thirds!) of his amazing food.

Celebration of Rod’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Prince Albert Alliance Church, 2777 6^th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK.  In lieu of other tributes, donations can be made to the benevolent fund at PAAC, 2777 6th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK  S6V 5L4.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
