John M. Hoover
March 23, 1932 ~ March 31, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of John M. Hoover announce his passing on March 31, 2021 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK.
John Milton Hoover was born on March 23, 1932 in Ridgeway. Ontario. He grew up in the townships of Haldimand and Walpole, near the north shore of Lake Erie. During that time, Dad helped on the family farm. He spent much time with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins learning the importance of strong family ties.
At the age of 18 years, Dad took to heart the saying, “Go west young man!” He travelled to Saskatchewan where he worked on farms and road crews.
During his travels, he met Mom. On October 14, 1953, Dad and Mom were married at Howard Creek. Their first child, Brenda, was born during the time that Dad managed the grain elevator at Crutwell. Before long, there was a move to Kindersley, where John Jr. (Jack) was born. After a short time in Kindersley, Dad moved the family to Ontario, back to the area where he was raised. This move was followed by the arrival of more children, “boy after boy!” First came Duane, followed shortly by Ronnie and then Robert. Randy’s arrival, on Mom’s birthday, concluded the boy’s in the family.
Dad always farmed but usually had another job to supplement the family income. He drove truck and worked in factories. Dad knew that Mom would capably take care of both kids and animals, while he was away at work. In 1968, Dad again moved the family. This time it was to mid-western Ontario, near Fordwich. It was here that “little Susie” was born. What a surprise she was and doted on by all.
While there, Dad took pride in his herd of Black Angus cattle. Throughout our time in Ontario, Dad took the family on regular trips to Paddockwood so that we could visit family on Mom’s side. Some of our best childhood memories are of those trips and times in Saskatchewan.
In 1975, the family moved again, back to Saskatchewan and settled on the farm near Spruce Home. It was here that Dad and Mom’s chosen daughter Shawna joined the family, making it complete.
Now Dad farmed full time, for many years. Following retirement, Dad and Mom continued to reside at the farm, while renting out the land.
In his younger days, Dad hunted, trapped and fished. Dad was able to continue fishing right up until the time he entered Herb Bassett Home, about three years ago. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of fishing with Dad/Grandpa.
As a family, we stand strong together to honour his name and pass on his traditions.
