Surrounded by love and family, Jack passed away peacefully at his home in Candle Lake, SK on February 9, 2022, at the age of 61.
Jack was born on June 24, 1960, in Prince Albert, SK to Cecil and Irma (Lemay) McDonald – the fourth of their five children. Jack grew up a true west end boy spending numerous hours at Parkland skating rink with many of his buds. Shortly after graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Jack married the love of his life, Terri Whitehead, and began his family.
Jack started his career at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in 1981, where he made many long-lasting friendships. His practical jokes earned him the nickname of “Jake the Snake,” but could take it as well as he could give it. He was also a sports enthusiast and life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Over the years he enjoyed playing hockey, fastball, slow-pitch, golf, pickleball and badminton. He was never one to sit still for too long. Upon retiring in 2011, Jack and Terri relocated to Candle Lake and began travelling to many places, including Southeast Asia, Costa Rica, Palm Desert, and several beach destinations.
Family was Jack’s number one priority. He loved nothing more than hanging out with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren whenever he could. He had a large family and friend group and always looked forward to getting together with everyone. He was full of life and an easy man to love with his laid-back style and personality. His true spirituality shone through as he never had a bad word to say about anyone; always finding the good in everyone.
Left to cherish his memory is his soulmate, best friend and wife of 41 years, TERRI; his two daughters: NICOLE (Jeff Cyr) and family Aiden, Liam, Gray, Lily and Shea; and ASHLEY (Gord Brown) and family Sloan and Leo; his aunt BERNADETTE Lemay; his brother BERNIE McDonald; sister BERNADETTE (Gene Slager); his sisters-in law and brothers-in-law Darlene (Wayne Michel), Jackie (Eugene Smith), Debbie (David Hunter), Joanne (Doug Barmby), Melody Kennedy, and Darren (Pearl Labiuk) Whitehead; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jack is predeceased by his parents Cecil and Irma McDonald; parents-in-law Lloyd and Jackie Whitehead; brothers Dale and Michael McDonald; sister-in-law Bernice McDonald; grandchildren Ella Rose and Lowen Jack Brown; niece Abigail Slager, and nephews Christopher Michel and Devin Whitehead.
Jack touched many lives with his kindness, humor, and generosity. He will be missed greatly but we are comforted by the fact that he has moved into the spirit world and is no longer suffering. Jack made many friendships that will last long beyond his time here with us. We will keep him alive in the memories we hold dear and in the love we share.
A special thank you to the people at Homecare, especially Michelle and the palliative team, for their care and support.
