It is with great sadness we regret to announce the passing of Hilary Paul Fahlman on September 1, 2022. Hilary was born on April 2, 1935 to Michael and Mary Fahlman of Kronau, Saskatchewan. He went to a one room school in Kronau and moved to Regina to finish his high school. He went on to complete his Engineering degree at the U of S.
Hilary’s first job in Engineering took him to northern Alberta. He met his future wife, Dorothy, at a church youth group in Edmonton. He asked her to marry him on their third date and she accepted. They dated for a year and were married. They spent a few years in the state of Washington, then moved back to Regina, and then Prince Albert. Hilary and Dorothy had four children, Cheryl, Valerie, Robert, and Michael. During this busy time, Hilary also started Mid Con Engineering which he ran for almost 50 years. He finally retired at age 85. Hilary and Dorothy also had several different business ventures during these years. In November, 2018, Neenu Varghese came to live with our parents. She quickly became family and a loving presence and support to both Hilary and Dorothy. When Dorothy began having health problems, Hilary continued to be a devoted partner and provided care and encouragement for her. She passed away in May of 2019 and he missed her daily.
He was an incredibly hard worker and was a master builder and fixer. He passed on the value of hard work to his children and grandchildren. He was always ready to assist others with his skills and ideas. Collecting rocks was a lifelong hobby for him, and he passed his knowledge on to his children and grandchildren. Hilary was learning to enjoy retired life and would read extensively, enjoying joke books and science magazines. Carving was another area that he really excelled in. He would always have a project on the go. He loved to visit and was sociable right up until the end. Many people have enjoyed conversations with him, and he had many friends. Hilary enjoyed family get togethers and enjoyed talking on the phone. He was always interested in the children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had a strong faith which was built from his parents, and he carried it on to his family.
Hilary is now reunited with the love of his life in eternal bliss. Those that survive him will continue to miss him and the sense of solid faith, love and kindness. His children Cheryl Fahlman (Peter Hart), Valerie (Craig) Jansen, Robert (Diane) Fahlman, Fr. Michael Fahlman, and Neenu Varghese (Binny Chandi); his siblings, Gabe Fahlman, Sister Cabrini, Isabelle Fahlman, and Peter Fahlman; his sister-in-law, Tillie Fahlman; his grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends.
