Gil married Eleanor Weibe September 23, 1979 in their home in Tobin Lake, SK. They combined their families and had two more children. Gil was an educator, in his early career he lived and worked in various communities including La Loche, Michel Village, Shoal Lake, and Red Earth. Gil and Eleanor moved to Prince Albert where Gil worked as a superintendent of schools for the north. They loved being part of the community, making big community meals, organizing the annual fishing derby and Eleanor even helped out teaching cooking. Gil impacted many lives and communities including legacies that exist to this day.
Gil was a pilot and had many a tale to tell about flying his own plane around northern Saskatchewan. Gil was also quite the carpenter and even built their family cabin, several skiffs, and a boat that the family enjoyed on Tobin Lake. He was an avid fisherman, loved riding motorbikes, and had various other hobbies such as wine making, archery, and coin collecting.
