Ever the quiet gentleman – Floyd Stanley Kernohan found relief, Sunday morning, September 26, 2010 from the pain and suffering of this life, and slipped peacefully into the next. Wrapped in the love and blessings of his family, we gently said goodbye to this husband, father, grandfather, protector, and friend. We were just as proud of him as he was of us. During the hours we had left with him, we sang, played guitar, cried, laughed, loved, held him and held each other while he readied himself to “take a look” and prepare a place for us to join him in the afterlife. Just as he showed us how to live, he showed us how to die. Floyd was born on August 10, 1920 in Laura, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest of three children born to Russel and Soffa Kernohan. Along with his brother Norman (Gladys) Kernohan, and sister Ida (Tom) Hodgson, the family homesteaded in MacDowall area in 1932, where Floyd eventually acquired land and established a farm of his own. In 1946 he met a local schoolteacher, Jennie Gill, whom he married on March 1st, 1947. Jennie was the love of his life and together they celebrated 63 years of marriage. Floyd was a long term Legion Member recently receiving his 55-year pin, a Veteran of World War II and a Carpenter with the Prince Albert school district for 25 years. Ever remembered, ever loved by his wife Jennie, daughter Ruth (Gordie) Byers, and grandson Brad Byers (Kirsten); daughter Judy Kernohan, grandson Tom D’arcy, granddaughter Sandra (Travis) Boone; son Ken (Bev) Kernohan, grandson Kevin Kernohan, granddaughter Christa Kernohan (Dave); son Dave Kernohan, grandson Jeff Kernohan; son Sid (Mimi) Kernohan, granddaughter Chelsie (Joe) Stewart, granddaughter Alanna Kernohan (Cory), grandson Evan Kernohan (Stephanie). You’ve had a good run, and we see you out of your chair doing exactly that – unencumbered, pain-free, smiling, praying and keeping watch over us. Please join us in laying Floyd to rest at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 30th at River Park Memorial Chapel. Officers and Members of the Royal Canadian Legion will confer Veteran’s Honours. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Last Supper, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Dad, we know you’ll always be there in our hearts at our family gatherings and smiling down on us as we continue our journey through life. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 764-2727, Wayne Timoffee – Funeral Director.
