Edward (Ed) Dmyterko
July 19, 1938 ~ September 7, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Husband, Dad and Grandpa, Ed
Dmyterko on September 7, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Dad died peacefully at home with Mum
right by his side – where she has been all his life.
Dad was born on July 19, 1938 in the Carrot River area, the first son of Dick and Edna
Dmyterko. He attended school until grade 8 and at the young age of 15, he went to work and
entered into the construction industry at Ruszkowski Construction in Prince Albert. It was there
that he met Anne Nikolaisen. They married in 1963 and built a wonderful life and family
together. In 1976, Dad ventured out on his own, starting Dmyterko Enterprises Ltd. with Mum at
his side. During that time, he dug many basements, did site preparation and sewer and water
installations for many of the homes in Prince Albert. He bought raw land on Southwood Drive
and developed the area and was proud to have one of the streets named Dmyterko Bay and
another named Kelly Place. There are many houses and businesses that exist in the city as a
result of Dad’s hard work and effort. As time went on, Dad worked in his shop repairing
equipment and building loader buckets. His ingenuity was evident the year he needed a low bed
trailer and no one could supply him one for 6 months. Because the word “can’t” was not in his
vocabulary, Dad, along with Lloyd Lucas’s welding skills, went ahead and built one for himself!
This tri-axle trailer was highly recognized by many in the industry. He was so very proud of this
accomplishment.
In December of 2006, Dad sustained serious injuries while working on one of his trucks in the
shop. He fought extremely hard to recover, and he did. However, this slowed him down and led to his retirement from the business. Dad and Mum were avid supporters of Ducks Unlimited over the years and received an award of distinction recognizing their significant contributions to wetland conservation in the Prince Albert area. After many years of business in Prince Albert, Dad was recognized with the Samuel McLeod Legacy Award from the Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce in 2007. Dad worked awfully hard all of his life to provide for and take care of the family he loved so very much. He has left us all with a legacy of working hard and being good to people. To all who have touched Dad’s life, we thank you.
Dad is survived by his loving wife Anne, his son Perry Dmyterko and his daughter Pam (Melvyn) Wade; his grandchildren: Garth Dmyterko (Marianna), Keith Dmyterko (Colby), Jackson Wade, Edan Wade and Gabrielle Wade; his siblings: Anne Yakubowski, Peter (Marg) Dmyterko, Mary Semchyshen, Harry (Diane) Dmyterko, Joyce Bayda, Evelyn (Ott) Wiens, Dmytro Dmyterko, John (Stella) Dmyterko, Eugene (Linda) Dmyterko, Darlene (Doug) McGirr, Sonia (Danny) Stelter, Sylvia (Rick) Snow; his wife’s siblings: Kris (Wally) Wawro, Beatrice Ruszkowski, Cherry (Bob) Neil, Bill (Pam) Nikolaisen as well as many nieces and nephews.
